Perhaps it was appropriate this was announced on 9/11 through a campus-wide e-mail, but we were informed that the University of Dayton (OH), a Catholic University established by the Society of Mary, has now set up a "prayer room" for Muslim students and staff, including Korans and "prayer rugs."
I do not know if the university felt this was mandated by government regulations (unfortunately, we take government money) or simply an bent knee toward "diversity," but I imagine the Fathers are rolling over in the cemetary.
Can you post the email?
The religious left strikes again - they would appease Satan himself in the name of tolerance
Time for the Bishops or the Pope to step in.
Dark room is more like.........
A Catholic university that would do this may indeed remain a university. But they have forfeited any claim to being Catholic. May as well set up an idol to Moloch and be done with it.
AQ is winning, without firing a shot since 2001. Please check and see if bin Laden was cc’d on this.
Satan is pleased, no doubt.
Do y’all have any Hindu or Jewish prayer rooms?
I can’t comment on this without breaching the bounds of good taste and decorum. I’d probably get banned if I wrote what I’m thinking!
Anyone have a story of an Islamic school setting up a Christian chapel on their grounds? Christian schools shouldn’t encourage other faiths.
Thanks for reporting, Larry. Interesting.
Well, I guess we can hope that Pope Benedict will have a different reaction to the Koran than Pope John Paul II did
Years ago, a Catholic education meant something. Today, a Catholic school is just a private school with a crucifix or two around the campus.
He won’t be kissing that roll of TP anytime soon.
The poor, persecuted Muslims. Oh, the Humanity!
No different than John Paul II kissing the Koran.

The RCC has been married to the whole “Interfaith” movement for a while.
I’m not Catholic, but I can’t imagine how Catholics would feel about this. The comments before mine are all very accurate in their description of this travesty. This PC crap is going WAY too far and must stop!
And why are Muslims going to a Catholic University anyway?
“Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.” Byzantine Emperor -Manuel II Paleologus 1391
OMG. That explains everything.
I didn’t realize that U. Dayton was a Catholic University. I’m so sorry about this. Why would a Muslim even want to go to a Catholic university?
We are simply handing the fox the keys to the henhouse. Where is that crap going to end??
They want to pray to their fake god and false prophet? That’s what dorm rooms are for.
The religious left strikes again - they would appease Satan himself in the name of tolerance...
::::
Change “tolerance” to “cowardice”.
Those stupid infidels in Dayton.
Are you kidding me? Why? This IS my alma mater and I cannot believe this. Has there been any discussion on campus about the fact that they did this?
Now they’ll have a place to strap on their bomb belts without being harassed by security.
Well, that was your university's mistake.
Who pays the piper calls the tune. You lose the right to a lot of your autonomy once you start suckling on that government teat.
What next? Prayer rugs at all Catholic churches?
Last time I checked, setting up space for the use of one race only was called racism.
not all of them. there are some authentically Catholic schools left. My daughter is a freshman at one of them, the University of Dallas.
I am a Catholic and I am outraged about this. Let them start their own Mooslime U, that way they can kiss the carpet in their classrooms.
I have never understood this carpet kissing nonsense anyway. Muslims consider the bottom of the feet to be dirty. It is an insult to sit and show the soles of your shoes. So if the bottom of your feet are dirty, and you walk on carpets with them, why on earth would you kiss them whe you “pray”?
John Paul II had a disgraceful attitude towards Islam...praising it as a "great religion" while turning a blind eye to the slow-motion genocide of Christians at the hands of Muslims in Asia and Africa.
This needs to be repeated 10,000 times and not just that - Every single FReeper needs to be aware of what is going on.
Never in my entire life have I been so utterly disgusted - Im really at a loss for words on this one -
What really breaks my heart is that NO ONE is going to cry for America the next time - NO ONE - America will have fully deserved whatever they have coming.
the gov’t money is definitely the key. UDallas takes none.
I fear you are correct...
Regards,
To undermine the faith of the Catholic "infidel" and help win converts, of course.
All “tolerance” is is not naming wrong when you see it.
Oddly enough, right before reading your headline, I was noticing my bookmarks about the prayer rooms in US public schools. (I know that UD is a private, Catholic University even though it gets much public (Federal) money)
The titles below are not the original FR titles, since I have added the words school prayer to ensure that the bookmarks are easy to find.
School prayer -- Chicago Public Schools set up Muslim Prayer Rooms
School prayer -- Chicago Schools Create Prayer Room for Muslims
School prayer -- Prayers room, Picture of Mecca
School prayer -- Rock Bridge accommodates Muslim students: "It sounds like we set up a mosque
I think that prayer rooms in public schools are a mistake. Schools with prayer rooms become "enforcers" for the local Imam. Muslim students who use the prayer rooms will notice which Muslim students do not use the prayer rooms.
There's a good chance that the local Imam will ask the praying students to let him know which other students are not using the prayer rooms faithfully.
America has a tradition of allowing people to practice their religion in the way they wish.
Public schools should not be in the business of "enforcing" strict adherence to Islam.
The choice to announce on 9/11 was especially tacky, kind of in-your-face. Is the Univ of Dayton generally on the liberal Catholic side or is this a new turn for them?
[The religious left strikes again - they would appease Satan himself in the name of tolerance]
We will ultimately ‘tolerate’ ourselves right into oblivion!

They're still not "really" diverse!
“...And why are Muslims going to a Catholic University anyway?...”
To run it into the ground like they are trying, (and succeeding), in doing to everything.
I feel like I am seeing this happen right before my very eyes...
The University of Tulsa, which is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), not only has a Muslim prayer room, the university has a free-standing mosque on campus, complete with segregation of men and women.
