My sister-in-law was stuck in traffic heading North on 395 to DC and saw the plane as it turned toward the Pentagon.
She remembers thinking how odd it was to see a plane turn in that direction since they would usually turn the other way towards Dulles.
Within a month, she had quit her job as a legal secretary at a high-priced DC law firm and starting doing community volunteer service instead.

We lived in the flight path of San Francisco Int’l. The planes took off right over our house (and landed over it in bad weather). It was really weird to have zero noise. Even our cats were spooked by the quiet.

It was my sons 7th birthday (holy cow-today he’s a teenager) and we were sitting in Red Robin and the TV was on. He kept asking about what happened and why and we tried to divert hs attention to happier things....really a very bummer dinner for my wife and I.

Yep. First I was sad. Then I was mad. When I woke up on the 20th, I wanted to get even.
And I still do.

I was living in Northern Virginia just a few miles from the Pentagon. I was also getting ready for my son's 8th birthday party on the 16th. My office closed for the day and I remember how strange it was hearing no airplanes all day, save for a few fighter jets. And how not interested I was in planning a child's birthday party, yet how important I felt it was for life to go on and for me to not let my children be terrorized. I remember everyone in my neighborhood putting out their American flags, and watching all the vigils around the world on TV, feeling so gratified that people everywhere were outraged and sad about what had happened. I had a long conversation with a good friend who is a major in the Air Force reserve and works on intelligence matters. It was very sobering. I read the Washington Post special edition, which I still have, with the lead editorial titled simply, "War." I spent a lot of the day right here at FR, just trying to process everythng and understand what it all meant and where we were headed.
On the 13th I found out that one of my son's best friends was not coming to his party because his uncle was missing at the Pentagon. It took me over an hour to get to work because my usual route went right past the Pentagon and the road was closed.

THANK GOD ITS BUSH. No kidding. What a mess we'd have been in if'n Gore was there. I too was very thankful.
I do also remember how noticeably quiet the skies were for those few days. You wouldn't think it would be so intrusively empty, but as I drove to work with the top down on the car, it was really, really strange to have no airplanes in the sky. And... to know that it was this way across the entire country.
I doubt that will ever happen again in my lifetime.

“I was thanking God that algore was not our President.”
I was also. My other prayer was for the families of the murdered and that President Bush would be able to prevent another attack. My anger made me want to use great force against the terrorists and very quickly!

I had the TV on 24 hours a day. I was worried, I confess. It was that week that I found Free Republic, although I didn’t join for months.

The only Muslims who left our country that day were Bin Ladens family, whom OUR GOVERNMENT flew out of the country for their own safety, our safety being a lesser concern. Insert picture of falling man here. And see my tagline. That's a myth. Check your facts.

I was thinking “Kill them all. Kill their families. Kill anyone who tries to help them. Make them crap themselves everytime they hear a jet or diesel engine, in fear that the Destroyers have returned.”
I still think it from time to time, despite the courage of the Iraqis in opposing the terrorists.

there were many other foreign nationals who perished in the Twin Towers. And in Madrid. And in London. And in Indonesia. And in Munich. And in Syria, Lebanon, Tel Aviv, Haifitz, Jerusalem, Cyprus, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, India, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Scotland, Paris ...
That's why the WoT is not just our fight, it should be the world's fight.
Amen, brother.

200 years from now, I want their children's children's children's children to cower and cringe in fear whenever they hear the sounds of jet engines overhead because their legends tell of fire from the sky. I want them to hide in dark caves and holes in the earth, shivering with terror whenever they hear the roar of diesel engines because the tales of their ancestors talk about metal monsters crawling over the earth, spitting death and destruction. I want their mothers to be able to admonish them with "If you don't behave, the Pale Destroyers will come for you", and that will be enough to reduce them to quivering obesience. I want the annihilation to be so complete that their mythology will tell them of the day of judgment when the stern gods from across the sea .. the powerful 'Mericans .. destroyed their forefathers' wickedness. [snif]
I remember that post. It's just masterful.

I don’t know an exact time, but I would say it has been about two years since I continually turned on the tv, afraid of seing news of another attack. Seeing an ad was good!
