New Hampshire is the state we expect Ron Paul to shine, not Iowa. They are largely anti-war -- the last Iraq war poll had approval ratings as low as 14% suggesting a large majority of Republicans are disenfranchised with the war. Indpendents can vote for candidates in either party at the New Hampshire primary. So no pollster is going to be able to correctly quantify which candidate will get a boost but if the Independents are anti-war, I think it is safe to say that Ron Paul would be the candidate to benefit.

Before the 2006 elections, both of the state houses were Republican (the NH House was probably the most conservative state legislature in the country) and the governor before the current governor was Craig Benson who was also a pretty conservative Republican. Also before 2006, both US Senators from NH and both congressmen were Republicans.
True enough that in 2006, Republicans took a drubbing in NH (losing both congressional seats and both houses of the state legislature) but Republicans nationwide took a drubbing and NH Republicanism is the old fashioned, more libertarian type of Republicanism...no taxes, no regulations and small government...and the small government philosophy applies to both domestic and foreign policies...so...it hard to know whether 2006 is part of a trend left in NH...or whether it was just a reaction to Iraq...that remains to be seen

With its libertarian leanings, I’d figure Rep. Paul would be doing somewhat better, but then again, this is just the GOP they’re asking, so this sounds about right.

He’s also polling SIXTH among Republican candidates ... behind Romney, Giuliani, McCain, Thompson, and Huckabee.
- McCain is pretty much dead in the water ... and has 12%.
- Thompson has been in the race a WEEK ... and has 11%.
- Huckabee is as unlikely to win as I am ... and has 6%.
You’ll forgive me if I’m not overly impressed with Ron Paul’s 5%, and 6th Place standing.

Meanwhile, Paul's campaign is taking money and attention from a conservative candidate who can actually win, and his followers are using Free Republic to help him do it.
5% still gets you last place.
Does that 5% have the same +/- 3% error rate as most polls?
Perhaps the same can be said for a tiny group of "Freepers" bent on suicide, who continue to waste bandwidth on a candidate who "can't win".

What specific policy positions of Paul's do you think make him a lunatic?
I joined this site recently and did not really support any specific candidate...but the more I read these anti-Paul posts, the more unimpressed with I am with those posting them...a lot of name-calling...admittedly some funny barbs at Paul...but not a lot of deep-thinking criticism of his positions from what I've seen
