Vegan teacher threatens to sue school district
Fox River Grove Middle School teacher Dave Warwak gave school officials an ultimatum Monday: Go vegan, or I'll sue.
Warwak told school officials that unless the middle school served exclusively vegan lunches, which contain no animal products, Warwak would pursue a case against the school for its violation of the Illinois school code.
"The state of Illinois is not going to be happy with Fox River Grove when they find out that the vision they have for Illinois schools is being abandoned," Warwak said.
Warwak's offer came less than a week after school officials removed him from his middle school art classroom for teaching his students about the benefits of a vegan lifestyle.
Even after a Monday afternoon meeting between Warwak and school officials, the status of his job was still unclear. Warwak said school officials told him Monday that he was insubordinate but that as far as he knows, he is still employed and receiving a paycheck.
"I'm legally employed, but they don't want me in the building," Warwak said.
Fox River Grove Middle School Principal Tim Mahaffy declined to comment on Warwak's employment or his threat of legal action.
Warwak told school administrators they were in violation of Section 27-15 of the Illinois school code on moral and humane education.
The section states: "The superintendent of each region and city shall include once each year moral and humane education in the program of the teachers' institute which is held under his supervision."
During the eight years Warwak has worked for Fox River Grove School District 3, he has never received instruction in moral and humane education, he said.
"That means they're in violation at least eight times," Warwak said.
When Warwak called McHenry County State's Attorney Lou Bianchi about the issue, Bianchi suggested he contact the District 3 school board or the state board of education.
"We have nothing to do with school curriculum," Bianchi said.
A state board of education spokesman said Warwak could file his complaint with the McHenry County Regional Office of Education.
Warwak said there are animal rights organizations standing by to provide vegan lunches to everyone in the middle school.
"The only way I'll drop charges is if the school goes vegan," Warwak said.

I only know one vegan and he’s heavier than me, has a horrible complextion, drinks soy milk right out of the quart jugs and is borderline insane with serious anger issues. He isn’t a bad guy to hang out with mind but if that’s the benifits of a vegan lifestyle I’m going to start increasing my meat intake to tweleve servings for each meal.

So then can gay teachers sue unless everybody in the school is gay or teaches about gay matters?
Can black teachers sue the same way, if the school isn’t black enough?
Can Democrat teachers sue unless everyone in school is a Democrat?
How the heck can a “vegan” teacher sue to make the school “vegan”? Can’t we use common sense, get rid of the teacher, and let him start his own “vegan” school? There should be lots of liberal parents ready to pay the big bucks to have their kids go to a nice liberal school that teaches “vegan”.
I do see a correlation between the Moral and Humane Education for Teachers, and his desire for an all-Vegan school.

That settles it. I couldn’t decide what to have for lunch, but after reading this article I think I’ll go pick up some roast beef.
My policy is every time I see or hear about a vegetarian doing something crazy, I intentionally go eat some meat I otherwise wouldn’t have eaten. Kind of like my own personal Fairness Doctrine.
This recent convert to veganism wants ALL to bow to his wishes. Fire him and blacklist him. Don’t let him get his foot in another elementary school door.

I think all he’s done is prove that he definitely needed those moral and humane principles which were supposed to be taught to him. But what I want to know is how does a teacher get qualified and hired in the first place without having those qualities already investigated?
I seem to remember a campaign against serving milk as part of school lunches because many black American children are lactose intolerant. They were trying to make it a racist issue.
Heck, I’m Irish and lactose intolerant, but you just try to get my Baileys out of my cold, dead hands...
Also they kids will be missing important amino acids they need.

Same here! He’ll buy a box of morning star fake sausage patties and eat the whole box or a super size bag of nacho chips and eat 1/2 the bag. He thinks he’s such a hard core vegan....I think he’s a fat azz myself. :]
Funny you say that.. I was thinking how appropriate as I’m eating a roast beef sandwich right now..
I suspect my older son has some degree of lactose intolerance (he did when he was a baby) but the guy is too darned stubborn to admit it.

He claims that it is a MORAL issue. So he’s teaching the children “morals”. Where is the ACLU? He’s shoving is pagan fundamentalism down their throats and demanding that ALL comply with his moral beliefs (only “vegan” lunches, not just offering “vegan only” lunches).

Seems pretty straight-forward to me. School officials removed him from the classroom for his failures as a teacher, i.e., they acted morally. And then they told him to stay home so that his students would stop laughing at him, i.e., they acted humanely. Looks like they met their annual requirement. What’s the problem?

Yep. He’s just crazy. The fact the title doesn’t read, “Insane former teacher threatens to sue school district” says something about our society.
We had a guy in our military organization who tried to go 100 percent Veggie. Then after about three weeks...his stamina level was about half of what he had before. So his doctor strongly recommended going to a fish-veggie diet...which worked for about two months....until he lost more weight and then tossed in regular meals of Turkey into the diet as well. In the end...he had simply cut beef and pork out...and the truth is that we could all do with less beef/pork anyway.
If the school serves him nuts, is that cannibalism?
