He doesnt hide his jewishness, he just isnt a practicing Jew anymore, he doesnt follow organized religion (he is kind of a spiritual unitarian). He is a staunch Zionist and defends Israel and the Jewish people frequently. He dedicated half of a show a few months ago to the Haulocaust.

He reads to himself?? Do you know how much of an advocate he is for Christianity as well as Judaism? He is constantly angry at liberals for taking away Christianity in public ei ACLU, etc.

You should start listening again, sometimes his monologues about religion, philosophy, history, or the Islamofascists are mind-numbing, you wont find anything like it from anyone else (though Neal Boortz’s rants about Muslisms are amazing).

He hates Bush, but he has called Carter the worst at other times (depends on his mood). I think he hates Bush because he thinks he betrayed the conservatives, ie amnesty, and the mexican trucks, etc. Also, he feels Bush could win the war by using different military tactics, but refuses to do so (I don’t know how much merit this has, but I agree somewhat).
Despite this, Savage staunchly defended Gen Petraeus these past few days.

The term Tanach is actually an acronym for the three sections of the Hebrew Bible:

Torah
Nevi'im (Prophets)
Ketuvim (Writings)

I have a question.

That looks like a Jewish Bible, written in English.

That being said, do the English-language Jewish Bibles have their own translation (or translations),
or do they use the same multitude of translations that the Christian Bible is so “blessed” with
(Geneva, KJV, NKJV, NIV, NAS, RSV)?

Thanks.

It is an English-only copy of the Tanach.
the Hebrew text on the cover is Tanach.

English only as the cover is on the left side. not on the right.
Jewish Tanach is based on the Hebrew text.

Most so called Christian Old Testaments are based
on the Septuagint, the Greek copy from the Hebrew Old Testament.

Maybe you just haven’t listened to him on the right occasions, but he hardly hides his Jewishness! First of all, the accent! And he mentions it often.

Tanach actually means torah which is the first five books of the Bible...

No it doesn't. Tanak is an acronym. T (Tau in Hebrew) for Torah, N (Nun) for Nebhim (prophets) and K (Kaph) for Ketubhim, or "The Writings."

The two Jewish-specific translations with which I am slightly familiar are the "Old" Jewish Publication Society (JPS) and the New Jewish Publication Society (NJPS). The JPS reads like the KJV and is available freely on various and sundry Bible programs. The NJPS has a more modern style, but you still have to pay for it. The NJPS is usually just titled "Tankakh" on the cover, which leads me to believe that's the translation pictured.

Most so called Christian Old Testaments are based on the Septuagint, the Greek copy from the Hebrew Old Testament.

Almost no Christian OTs are based on the Septuagint. They are almost all based on the Masoretic text, nowadays as printed in the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, a scholarly edition of the Codex Leningradensis. The Masoretic Text has been used by Christian translators since at least the King James Version of 1611, and probably much earlier. (For instance, Wiki says that Jerome used a Hebrew text very like the MT when translating the Vulgate--much to the dismay of the LXX-loving fourth-century church!) Off the top of my head, only know of four translations of the LXX:

  1. Sir Brenton's (1851)
  2. The Apostle's Bible, apparently a one-man translation
  3. NETS, going to press about now
  4. The Orthodox Study Bible, "coming soon"

You can see from the "coming soons" that interest in the Septuagint is increasing. However, interest in the Masoretic Text is hardly waning; the BHS's successor, the Biblia Hebraica Quinta, is being worked on right now. The first fascicle is already available.

Actually, Tanakh is an acronym for Torah (the Pentateuch), Nevi'im (the Prophets) and Ketubim (the Writings)-- the three parts of the Jewish Bible (what Christians call the "Old Testament").

I did see them. ;o) If I were you, I would ask the mods to put (Pictures on #?) in the title. That way people would know the pictures were posted. You know how we love to poke fun when people mess up. LOL! I hope everything is OK at your building now.

“do they use the same multitude of translations”
I dunno about that, but the JPS (Jewish Publication Society) has a good English version.

I’ve listened to Savage whenever I can (sporadically). I knew he is Jewish. I don’t recall the exact time when he spoke of it on his program, but I know he has mentioned it.
