Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) today blasted a new plan by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA) to attach pro-illegal immigrant riders to the Defense Authorization Bill.
Piggy-backing amnesty legislation onto a defense bill is completely unacceptable and a slap in the face to Americans, Tancredo said. One would think the open-borders crowd had learned their lesson by now.
Senator Durbin, who in 2005 compared troops to Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime Pol Pot or others that had no concern for human beings during a Senate floor speech, is attempting to add a provision that would enable illegal aliens to access taxpayer-subsidized tuition benefits. Senator Feinstein is attempting to attach a provision that would provide a blanket amnesty to 2 million illegal aliens. The controversial provisions would be tacked on to a must-pass Defense Authorization bill.
In the letter, Tancredo asked Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to put an end to efforts in the Senate to attach any measures to unrelated legislation that would reward illegal aliens with amnesty or allow them increased access to publicly funded benefits.
Using a military bill when we have troops in the field as a vehicle for trying to sneak these kinds of unpopular measures by the public would be a terrible mistake, said Tancredo. Providing amnesty or taxpayer funded benefits is bad enough but attempting to pass such measures on the backs of the military would be perhaps the most cynical attempt at parliamentary gimmickry in recent history. The American public and the military deserve better.
Tancredo’s speaking up!
Durbin is one of the lowest forms of life in the Senate INCLUDING Teddy Kennedy. The people of IL should ashamed of themselves for voting for this piece of trash !!!
Amen! What sneaky ————.
FYI Ping!
Bump! (read later)
I think I’ll email Feinstein on this one - she just loves to call her constituents bigots and racists when they take umbrage at her citizenship giveaway schemes.
Congress Critter ping!
And, of course, anyone who votes against it because of the “poison pill” will be accused of not supporting the troops the next time they come up for reelection.
Even most of the liberal friends of mine are not for illegal amnesty.
Of course they actually have to find out about things like this in order to get angry about it.
I agree.
The illegal alien lobby is using every trick in the book.
Tancredo fricking owns this issue.
I am glad someone other than rudy grabbed their backbone, with Tancredo I believe him.
“The DREAM Act (Amendment 2237 to the Defense Authorization bill) is a nightmare. It is a massive amnesty that extends to the millions of illegal aliens who entered the United States before the age of 16.”
More(from the other side):
Oops I got that quote from another forum and thought it was from the article linked. This is...If it helps
“The Senate has introduced the DREAM Act as an amendment to H.R. 1585, the Department of Defense Authorization bill. Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Richard Lugar (R-IN) announced last week that S. 774, a bill that was originally introduced back in March, would be added as a provision to the DOD Authorization bill. The provisions of the DREAM Amendment are expected to be identical to S.774.”
here is a link to another site that is against this.
