Weekend Talk Show *Preview* for 9/15 - 9/16/07 (not the live thread)

That was the week that was, and the Democrats want to say "it's over, let it go."* IOW, they just want to MoveOn (.ORG) from this weeks fiasco. It's clear from the line up this weekend that the Dhimmicrats are going to make one last attempt to spin this as a win for their (defeatest) side, but it's not likely to work. Petraeus done stomped 'em good. Watch for all sound bites from his testimony to be stored in the same sealed vault as the Juanita Broderick interview and the current stories on Norman Hsu.

This weeks shows are therefore beyond predictable and verging on self parody. It would be funny if it weren't so disgusting.

At NBC Meet The Press they obviously thought that the McCain/Kerry point/counterpoint session on Georgie Steponallofus show on ABC last Sunday was just the bees knees so they've decided to repeat it on their show this week. Of course, incurious George arranged it so that John F'n Kerry got to go on after McCain was finished and thus gave the French one the last word. That also offered no opportunity for McCain to rebut the fantasies of his "good friend" from Massachusetts. But what else would you expect when they offered up Kerry as "rebuttal" to McCain? Have you ever heard of a Republican being given an opportunity to rebut any of the moonbats? Not likely. Now, Lil' Timmah is touting the meeting this week as a debate. If that means that McCain and Kerry will be on the set at the same time and afforded the opportunity to respond to each other then that could be interesting. But it will only be interesting if McCain will drop his lame "bend over backwards" attitude towards those on the other side of the aisle in the name of "comity." The Dhimmicrats, John F'n Kerry first among them, have never afforded any Republicans respect and McCain's insistence in deferring to them in the name of "getting along" is just sick. Since he has to do something to jump start his failing presidential bid, perhaps bitch slapping the French one would be a good start. My fondest hope isn't likely to be realized, however, and that would be to have a real denunciation of the historical fantasies pushed by the left about Vietnam. Their false narrative about what supposedly happened and the lessons to be drawn is pernicious and needs to be thoroughly destroyed. McCain could start that process, but I fear he won't.

CBS Face The Nation has Carl Levin for the anti-American point of view and John Kyl for the defense of our country. Levin is bolstered by Ol' Bob plus the Washington Post's designated anti-war reporter, Tom Ricks. Ricks pushed the "we've lost no matter what" meme early with his 2006 book, Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq, and he is being trotted out a lot lately to try to stem the growing perception of possible victory that is inconveniently growing in the real world. Kyl is one of the more outspoken critics of the despicable MoveOn.ORG attack on Petraeus and, so far as I can find, Levin has refused to condemn their extremist and demonstrably false rhetoric. If Kyl chooses to emphasize that angle watch for the troika arranged against him to have a conniption.

Fox News Sunday Has the first (for my area) of two appearances by Secretary Gates this week. The current situation in Iraq is being increasingly credited to Gates, just as the previous problems were laid at Donald Rumsfeld's feet. I'm not sure that Gates deserves the credit he's being given (the DBM couldn't credit Bush, so that must find someone else) and I know I don't blame Rumsfeld for past problems (I blame Powell and Bremer), but it fits the DBM narrative and the narrative must be followed at all costs, even if it's trending in an overall direction they don't like. If we ultimately prevail in Iraq this week may be viewed as the turning point, for we won't lose over there, but in the halls of Congress. I'm anxious to hear Gates pronouncements on both Petraeus' testimony and Bush's speech which both factored into the positive outcome. I have a feeling that his appearances will provide the most sound bites for the week. As counterpoint to Gates FNS regurgitates Joe "it's an absolute failure" Biden. Romney has taken much criticism over the fact that his sons are not in the service in Iraq. Biden has gotten much praise because his son is in the service and headed that way. Of the two, however, I suspect that Romney isn't manipulating his son's decisions for political gain but that Biden may be. If so Biden's ploy is perhaps the most grotesque act of political hypocrisy ever committed. Finally FNS has a taped "feature" on General Petraeus (done earlier in the week) as their "Power Player of the Week." For once I agree with their choice. I doubt he'll make any news or respond to any of his critics, but the more I see him on TV the better I feel about things. The roundtable has Brit, Juan, Bill and Nina (substituting for Mara). While Bill Kristol will concentrate on the devastating effect on the Dhimmicrats of Petraeus' performance this week Juan will want to attack Bush's speech and ignore the General. Does that provide the opening for a Brit smack down? One can only hope. Nina is likely to look beyond the surge hearings, particularly looking at the potential affects of a possible economic downturn. Mara would be proud.

CNN Late Edition has perhaps the most stacked guest list I can recall in a long time. Three pro-defeat Democrats and one pro-victory Republican, all presided over by Wolfe "terrorists are legitimate news sources" Blitzer. I find it interesting that as of this moment (12:30 PM central on Saturday) CNN still hasn't provided any listings on their show web site. Perhaps their trying to hide their plans? Or maybe their simply embarrassed? Nah, that would mean they have some shame or sense of right and wrong, which we know isn't the case. Weasely Clark is apparently campaigning (franticly) for Hillary's VP slot, so think of this as part of his audition. Don't be surprised to see him channeling Spiro Agnew's attack dog tactics, particularly defending her thighness and MoveOn.ORG from those "nasty evil Republican attacks." Chris Dodd didn't come off any better in his encounter with General Petraeus than the rest of the Dhimmicrats, but he is such a non-entity that it barely made news even in his local, and very sympathetic (leftist) newspaper. He will likely be trying to paint a picture of himself having scored a great triumph against the mendacity of the Bush administration in a forum where he's guaranteed no probing questions nor is he likely to be asked for any evidence or even logic to back up his claims. Dodd will also try to champion the poor downtrodden mortgage holders in the sub-prime mortgage market, which is his new hobby horse. Evan Bayh rounds out the bluish trio and will no doubt echo the talking points faithfully about Iraq. Interestingly he's got a new issue that he's pursuing, "corruption" in the World Bank, which is what cost Paul Wolfowitz his job there as he dared to take on the entrenched bureaucracy. What's bizarre is that Bayh is championing "reform" by attacking the body Wolfowitz set up to challenge the corrupt bureaucracy. Sounds like Evan is appealing to the unionized bureaucrats who are the true base of their power.

ABC This Week rounds out the Sunday talking head shows with Gates second appearance, this time with Jack Reed repeating his role following the President's speech as rebutter in chief. I have to say that his performance responding to Bush on Thursday night was one of the most wooden and meaningless bits of political theater I've seen in quite some time. His delivery reminded me of Norma Desmond's closing bit in Sunset Boulevard. Like her, he certainly wasn't ready for his close up, Mr. Demille. Perhaps incurious George will provide him a more friendly environment. You know Georgie will be doing his best on behalf of Team Clinton, as he always does. The rather one sided roundtable has Tom "the world is flat" Friedman, Fareed "American's preside over Genocide" Zakaria, Martha "Osama loves to quote her" Raddatz and George "RINOs only need apply" Will. Someday they may discover that a political roundtable format is supposed to include competing points of view. A forlorn hope, I know.

The Saturday shows do provide a little variety by examining the Fred Thompson campaign in addition to the Petraeus testimony. The Beltway Boys, particularly Mort, are doing a complete reversal this week of their previous position and praising Fred and his campaign, particularly the decision to go on Leno instead of join the televised debate. We'll see how long that lasts. CNBC's Tim Russert Show is gearing up for the holiday book buying season, this week promoting Alan Alda's latest tome. I'm sure it's predictably liberal in slant, but likely pleasant in tone. One interesting bit about the book, in his own words, is that he reflects on some of his early rhetoric as "the ravings of a naïve Hollywood liberal." Fox News Watch focuses, laser like, on how the media treated the testimony of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker. Neal will no doubt lament the vast right wing media's poor performance in not holding the lying war mongers to account. He certainly will denounce the horribly unfair attacks on that great patriotic Democratic institution, MoveOn.ORG. The Journal Editorial Report also concentrates on the surge testimony, though they do also touch on the economy and the upcoming Fed meeting. Unlike FNW they don't have to make room for insane leftist ranting so they have time to discuss more than one substantive issue each week and, also unlike FNW, they do it in a meaningful way.

So, the drive by media is licking their wounds and attempting to paper over the sound drubbing they and their allies received at the hands of "General Betray Us." They will try to ignore or bypass the reality of this weeks hearings and launch new attacks, both on the policy of victory and the people who beat them so soundly. Watch for impassioned pieces to start appearing on how the VRWC fascists are trying to silence those poor voices of dissent who dare to speak truth to power.

Oh, and they won't talk much, if at all, about Norman Hsu on the shows this week. Well duh!

I've got to say that based on how this week has gone, if we can get ourselves even a semi decent slate of candidates, particularly at the top of the ticket, we may be in a position to make an historic sweep in the 2008 elections. Pay attention to Bill Kristol's new piece posted at Time Magazine for some context on that contrarian and seemingly counter intuitive statement.
