Report: U.S. Wants War With Iran
YnetNews ^ | September 16, 2007

Posted on 09/16/2007 6:30:08 AM PDT by Fennie

The United States Department of Defense has developed a list of up to 2,000 bombing targets in Iran, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

According to the report, senior CIA and US defense officials believe that the White House was taking steps to ensure military confrontation with Iran, for fear that diplomatic efforts to slow the country's nuclear weapons program are doomed to fail.

According to a senior US intelligence officer, the escalation to military confrontation could begin with a public denunciation of Iran's suspected meddling in Iraq, the report said. The US claims Iran is arming and training Shiite militants; a denunciation of such activity could lead to cross-border raids on Iranian training camps and bomb factories.

The official told the Sunday Telegraph that a prime target for such a raid would be the Fajr base run by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Force in southern Iran, where Western intelligence agencies say armor-piercing projectiles used against British and US troops are manufactured...

According to a senior US intelligence officer...

Any real intelligence officer would not leak such a story to a foreign newspaper, unless he wanted to risk spending the rest of his life in Leavenworth.

So very true!

It seems like we see a story of either the US or Israel on the verge of attacking Iran every 3 months for the past 3 years.

Of course the pentagon has plans for war with Iran. How remiss would they be if they didn’t. It doesn’t take any leaking for one to know that. Beyond that, this article is a piece of trash made up out of whole cloth by it’s authors.

Keep an eye on the pizza deliveries around the Pentagon. If they go up in the eving something is going on.

I would think any psy-op in this case would more likely be directed toward Farsi language publications in Iran (rather than toward Europeans) in order to amplify dissent with the Iranian government.

There is contingency planning going on all the time at the Pentagon. The amount of effort varies between having many people working on detailed bombing targets for a 30-year boil on the world's butt (Iran) vs. having some Army Reserve second lieutentant dust off War Plan Crimson once a year and check AAA for maps for a "Canadian Vacation".

I have a couple of choice bombing targets for the U.S. Military. First an atomic weapon of suitable size on Medena as an attention getter. If that doesn’t turn a few middle eastern heads in the right direction, go for Mecca.
That ought to do the trick.

If we truly want to destoy the present government of Iran, we just need to send several hundred liberals over there to reinforce the budding decadence. What most concerns me about our own country is the ultimate swing of that pendulum of history. Will the “good” citizens of “flyover country” USA end up siding with the falsely assumed “moral” Muslims and fight against the liberal establishment? We must be careful to avoid any alliance with these misguided people and again back to our history lesson, we can never have a meaningful trusing relationship with them as long as they take the Koran literally.

"In the last week of August, the USS Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group took up position opposite the Lebanese coast amid trepidation over the September presidential election. Our military sources reported that aboard the group’s vessels are members of the 22nds Marine special operations-capable Expeditionary Unit, who are ready to execute landings on Lebanese beaches."

That's old news...The USS Kearsarge has been in the Persian Gulf for at least a week. They did may a brief stop in Kuwait but their whereabouts exactly now I cannot say nor would say if I could. They continue training and running drills. The sailors and marines will be ready should they be called upon...

“...the escalation to military confrontation could begin with a public denunciation of Iran’s suspected meddling in Iraq, the report said.”

A denunciation that should have taken place TWO YEARS AGO.

Bush appears to have the same policy towards Itan that he has with Mexico... ass kisser. As long as Bush ALLOWS Sadr and his goons to live, ALLOWS Iran to send weapons into Iraq with impunity, and ALLOWS Iran to train terrorists I can only assume he WANTS these things.

I’ll believe it when I see it. I suspect that even if we ever do attack Iran it will be a totally PC attack where we flick them in the nose at some remote Iranian site and then run like hell so that no one is offended. Wouldn’t want the empty skirts at the UN to start waving pieces of paper around.

If we truly want to destroy the present government of Iran, we just need to send several hundred liberals over there to reinforce the budding decadence.

The only problem with this is that liberals are not tolerated "over there." If they were to show up and start their preaching against Iran, they would be arrested, tortured and if they didn't change their minds, killed. Not to worry though. If we send liberals to Iran they will only attack the USA anyway so we can be sure they will be safe. As to your second point, I suggest the left is already aligned with the muzzies and intends to use them to our detriment.

sadly, I must LOL and agree with you. The Pentagon is now divided into think tanks devoted to war plan contingencies, and Academy-trained win/win wingineers “tasking together” to design hybrid prototype tanks that run on a combination of Willie Fuel and earth-friendly batteries. General Patton would die of shame if he saw what Barney and Friends and Oprah have done to some of our “leaders” and “planners”.

There is nothing remarkable about a nation having plans drawn up for an invasion of any country. The US has had plans drawn up for invasion of other countries in the past, but has not carried out the invasion and military campaign. There were even plans for the invasion of England, even though England has been an ally for many years.

Are we going to have to endure another 7 months of "Rush to War" stories? I swear, Bismark and von Moltke must be turning over in their graves at the idea that taking a year to decide whether to go to war is a "rush".

The President would be well advised to attack as quickly as is feasible if and when he decides it is necessary. Keep the "consulting" with Congress to the legal minimum, and use the 60 days allowed by the War Powers Act to do as much damage as possible. We'll all be much better off if Congress is debating a fait accompli at that point, rather than allowing them the ability to embolden the enemy and enable them political maneuvering room, as happened last time around.

If we continue to move as slowly as we have been, we're going to have serious problems continuing to deal with an agile and flexible enemy like the Islamofascists. The law as it stands gives the President the ability to do so. He simply needs to show leadership and make good use of his full authority.

If it be so, the media should not be allowed in the fracas, and no embedded journalist... they only print lies, spread deception, and ridicule our military. Our troops need our support, and they need something better than what they have received in the past.

No real surprise. The Pentagon keeps war plans for war with just about every country on the planet, except France. We just assume they will immediately surrender as soon as we declare war on them. We have probably had plans to flaten Iran since Jimmy boy was prez. Of course, with that coward, the Pentagon could not tell him of those.
