The next military round up the scale would generally be .308 basically AKA 7.62NATO. This is almost as powerful as the old 30-06, which is high powered in anybody’s book.

Except the .50 caliber shooters, who consider it a Mouse Round. To each his own. Or in my case, all to me. I like 'em all, from .22 rim-fire to .50 BMG. (and beyond).

This BATFE agent does not know the laws that he is suppose to enforce. Send him back to the academy for further training.

He's probably had the "advanced course". BATFE agents are the slime at the bottom of the law enforcement barrel.

He adds that the guns are readily available on streets or can be ordered by mail less than $200.

Oh Really!. Of course beside the fact that it would be federal felony to buy or sell one that way, the prices for all the AK clones I've seen in Shotgun news are well above that. Maybe he'd thinking of the SKS which fires the same cartridge, but has a fixed magazine, 10 rounds IIRC (You'd think I'd know but mine has been sitting in the safe for far too long.)

But even the SKS can not legally be ordered by mail.. well unless you have it shipped to your local Federal Firearms Licensed dealer, paying him a fee to handle the background check and other paperwork.

Nor should you.

“The stupidity of the left is limitless.”

Isn’t it, though?

Take the select fire parts out of an AK receiver, make sure there is no hole for a pin to mount auto sear and you have a semi-auto AK. Manufacturers tried to call them SARs (Semi-Auto Rifle) but the name didn’t really catch on.

In 2005, the Miami-Dade Police Department reported two homicides involving an assault rifle; by last year there were 10

So where are the criminals getting the full auto/burst fire Assault rifles? Manufacture or importation of of those for civilian use has been banned in the US since 1986.

Or is the Miami-Dade PD blowing smoke out of their asses? Do they know the meanings of the words spewing from their mouths and press releases? Hmm?

I wonder what the gun control Nazi’s would consider a Browning Automatic Rifle?

A Bonnie and Clyde gun? Never mind that it was even more of a favorite of the Law officers who ambushed and killed Bonnie and Clyde, and lots of others as well.

OTOH, it's really too bad old Miller didn't have a BAR or Thompson to guard his still with, instead of a ratty old Savage sawed off shotgun. Even the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court would likely have found himself able to take judicial notice that those were militarily useful weapons, which could contribute to the effectiveness of a well regulated militia.

A C&R license is your friend.

Carlos Baixauli is a Miami-based special agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Carlos is also a deceptive bitch.

By blurring the lines between truth, fiction, deception and withholding information, the ATF, certain Mayors and Chiefs of police can convince a gullible public that there are too many "assault weapons" on the streets.

To the lurkers: what you never hear them say is what they consider to be an assault weapon. What you never hear them say is that a *federal firearms license holder* can certainly mail order WHAT THE ATF CONSIDERS TO BE AN ASSAULT WEAPON!! which are typically what ground troops used before 1960. Ma and Pa Kettle AND you and I are not so lucky. We must purchase ours somewhere other than mail-order. So we are talking about single shot, bolt-action rifles for the most part. So these assault weapons they speak of are of the same caliber but certainly not as accurate as your Uncle Gomez's deer gun.

“A Bonnie and Clyde gun? Never mind that it was even more of a favorite of the Law officers who ambushed and killed Bonnie and Clyde, and lots of others as well.”

Bonnie was a highly efficient BAR operator, and it was her primary weapon. Hers had part of the stock sawn off and part of the barrel.

“Even the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court would likely have found himself able to take judicial notice that those were militarily useful weapons, which could contribute to the effectiveness of a well regulated militia.”

I saw an old Hitler Channel episode on guns, basically, they said the BAR was so highly regarded by the government that someone in the government wouldn’t allow the Army to use them overseas during WW-I because they were afraid the Germans would copy it if they ever captured one.

“assault rifle” has an actual definition of being a selective fire small arm.

i think you mean “assault weapon” which is defined by scary, cosmetic features (bayonette lug, flash supressor, protruding handle, high cap mag, etc.) that have nothing to do with operation.

also referred to as EBG (eeeeevil black gun)

when talking about a $200 rifle, more likely an SKS.

There’s a lot of empty space in a 30’06 case.

not if you build the gun right :)

“not if you build the gun right :)”

Funny.... ;)

The less loose volume in a cartridge the better. Of course, the accuracy difference between the two (provided same care in assembly and nice, spiffy, Sierra MatchKing 168s on both) is small. Velocities are a bit higher for the 308.
