President Bush has settled on retired federal judge Michael B. Mukasey to replace Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General, two sources familiar with the decision said Sunday.
The appointment of Mukasey, 66, considered a law-and-order conservative and authority on national security issues, could come as early as Monday morning, the sources said.

Exactly
Wrong, a recess appointment is only valid for seven months.
I don’t really care except that Mukasey is a Giuliani supporter.
To the extent that Mukasey can aid Giuliani from the Justice position, I don’t like this. It also troubles me because Giuliani is pro-murdering babies, so until I discover otherwise, I assume Mukasey likes to suction brains as well.
IMO this is going to be a DISASTER. Mukasey also forced someone back to China who was seeking political asylum. They feared prison over resisting China’s forced abortion laws.

*He shouldve just waited until the next recess and slipped Olson through on a recess appointment. At this point it doesnt matter whether or not its a recess appointment or a regular approval both expire at the end of this term anyway.*
Agreed. the division between the left and right is and will increase as time goes on and the only people who don’t know it are the right wing rinos like Bush who has made so many deals he has lost the right wing base who helped elect him by putting him over the top.
Amazing how many people fail to or refuse to understand that Bush’s options here were about as limited as they could be.
If it were a SCOTUS nomination, I could understand the outrage. But for an interim AG? C’mon, people. Political reality is political reality. We’re still paying the price for 11/2006.
With few exceptions, the attorney general is merely a faceless bureaucrat in the federal behemoth. I think Ed Meese was the exception, and see how liberals and “moderate” Republicans pilloried him.
Wow, I never heard of Greeley embracing Marx and Lenin. I know he raised money for the Jefferson Davis defense fund for a trial that was cancelled. Had Greeley been elected, I don’t think he would have become president. I recall that a check of the dates showed that he died before March 4, 1873.
Someone ought to start a fund to raise money for spineless Republicans to undergo backbone transplants.

“With few exceptions, the attorney general is merely a faceless...”
Gonzo has been the faceless character assisting with the undermining of sovereignty while being for practical purposes conducting what can effectively and fairly be described as foreign policy negotiations quietly and for the most part out of the public view, while the spotlight he DID get was in the WOT related matters......how perfect!
Faceless to the average American who might think that he is an actor or a retired athelete
Not faceless when it comes to undermining the United States, I see your point.
But who remembers the attorneys general under Ford. I know one was Saxbe, then Levy, I think.
He founded the New York Tribune and used Marx and Engels as European correspondents. The Marxists crow about the number of articles written by Marx in that paper right here.
I agree. However, the primary difference between Jimmy Carter and Michael Mukasey is that the former is a thoroughly incompetent, woolly-headed liberal and the latter is an extraordinarily competent, solid conservative.
For brownie points, name the "religious leader" that Jimmie Carter admired, and hailed as a very spiritual man.
Ayatollah Khomeni. Hope it makes you feel better to know you're not the only one around here who endured the Carter presidency.
The Olson thing was just a lefty trial balloon so they could act like they won when Bush didn’t pick him.
This is not a Supreme Court nomination. This is an Attorney General nomination. No matter who it is, he or she will be gone in January of 2009.
You sound very trollish and a seminal poster.
