Police Release 9 Threatening Postcards
OCALA, Fla. -- Investigators in Marion County, Fla., are searching for the author of nine postcards sent to different schools on the same day with the words 'Jihad-Boom" and handwritten cartoons of a building apparently exploding with people inside.
Investigators released the postcards with the threatening drawings on them Monday in hopes of generating leads in the case.
Officials said that the postcards are made up of various and traditional themes, and each one has a distinctive hand-drawn cartoon on it. Several of the threats arrived on postcards featuring Walt Disney World.
Detectives said the threat-maker crossed his or her No. 7s and attached a suffix to the address. Six of the nine postcards spell the word "Jihad" correctly, while the others are incorrect.
The U.S. Postal Service said that the postcards were all mailed to the schools from the Ocala-Gainesville mailing district before the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
A $10,000 reward has been issued to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for using the postal service to mail the threatening postcards to schools.

Al Qaeda again telling us what they’ll do, before they do it. And the sheep are too stupid to care.
My bet would be on some high schoolers who think they’re very funny. Not so funny if they get caught.
I think we need to riot and burn down the embassies of any country that crosses its sevens.
< / Jihadi Stupidity>
I dunno, look at how childish the anthrax letters were as well.
“Six of the nine postcards spell the word “Jihad” correctly, while the others are incorrect.”
Can’t spell Jihad? Yep, that seems like American high-schoolers.
Yes. I remember the jihadist calendars depicting the bombing of the WTC— a YEAR BEFORE IT HAPPENED!
Wow.. I graduated from Vanguard High School.. oh so many years ago...
Is that true? I’ve never heard that - do you have a link? I’d love to look that up and add it to some research I’ve been collecting.
I think you are correct.
“A Perfect Day” looming?
Surprising. Not many people are aware that the correct spelling of "Jihad" is "I am a damn moron". It is a non-phonetic spelling that can be tricky to memorize...
The “crossed sevens” could mean the writer went to school in Europe. They didn’t learn that in a Florida school, and high schoolers probably wouldn’t feint that.
Note the date on the post card.
10-10
.
"JIAHD," :-).
So is it an Arab terrorist who can't spell words in English, or a typical student, who can't spell words in English ...

They cross the 7 (to distinguish it from a 1) in many places; actually, a lot of people in New York do it, probably because of the influence of so many 7-crossing foreigners. I myself cross my 7’s because I travel to places where they do it, and it makes one’s numbers clearer to them. Reading foreign numbers can be difficult!
That said, someone I know here (in Florida) got an e-mail death-threat from somebody who called himself “Ali the Assassin” and closed his threat-letter with “ALLAH IS MERCIFUL.” She thinks it was just spam, and not personal, because she was supposed to get in touch with an e-mail address in the UK (presumably to send money to buy off the “assassin”). Needless to say, she sent it to the FBI. But there are no doubt other people who received it and were terrified by it - anybody here get one or know anybody who did?
A dyslexic musilm terrorist?.................
I cross mine - was taught to do it in computer programming classes so there wouldn't be mistakes interpreting hand-written notes.
That was my first thought when reading this. Notice the post card says 10-10? The the one thing that may point to this being a hoax is the Perfect Day scenario requires complete surprise. Al-Queda announcing the date is not their MO. One can only hope this is a stupid prank.
“Yep, that seems like American high-schoolers.”
From PUBLIC HS of course.
Do not leave one child behind, but if you have to, stop the progress of all other children.
Let’s respond with postcards (of pigs) to our local mosques with a “Mecca- Nuke” message on the back.
..And then wait and see how long before the uproar starts in the media!
Whoa - this is disturbing.
Pinging others as well.

Very strange. I looked at the postcards. Some were tourist postcards, collected from different sites in Florida, and two of them appeared to be rather feminine looking note cards (the type of blank cards you can buy in a museum gift shop or high-end stationery store). One was a water color of a cat on a chair in a garden, and the other was a somewhat whimsical looking thing that appeared to be on hand-made or special paper with fibers in it. Odd choice of jihadi writing materials.
Each one has: 9-11 ? 10-10
Leftists accuse conservatives for using “scare tactics” to gain/keep power.
Whenever I hear this argument, I tell the pansy that I know theirs will be the first voice whining that “Bush didn’t protect them” when an attack happens.
Ping to #8 please
The Marion County public schools also had bomb threats last year. Like now, the students were not allowed to bring backpacks to school.
This is the statement published on the school board’s web page:
SCHOOLS RETURN TO NORMAL SCHEDULES
September 11, 2007
Marion County
Public schools throughout Marion County return to normal schedules tomorrow, Wednesday, September 12.
This means students will be allowed to carry backpacks and book bags. The one exception is Dunnellon Middle School, which as a general policy does not allow these items. Parents will be alerted of the return to normal schedules with a district-wide telephone call this evening.
Thanks to the positive response of parents, students, and district employees, today was calm throughout Marion Countys 46 public schools. Only a handful of backpacks and book bags were confiscated because those students did not receive word of the districts ban on them today. Attendance district-wide was down about three percent from normal, with 3,319 students absent today.
Several schools received written threats on Monday which were mailed directly to the schools referencing todays anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Agencies continuing to investigate include the Marion County Sheriffs Office, Ocala Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the U.S. Postmaster, and the FBI.
Anyone with information on the written threats should call Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 368-STOP (368-7867). They can remain anonymous and may receive a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible.

One can only hope this was a stupid prank. High Schools do not fit the scenario of the Perfect day - where they would want boys to young to fight back and girls old enough to rape like Jr High or Elementary. Announcing the date (10-10) does not fit the Perfect day plan either. Still If I had a student in one of these districts, I would be very very concerned.
Glen Beck has been reporting on the alleged threat to our children in schools around the nation.
Yah, the crossing is either euro (if they do that) or computer training. I learned to cross numbers also doing computer work.
What do you think the 10-10 means? Be careful on October 10th?
I remember seeing that 9/11 terrorist calendar. I’ve been searching for it but no luck.
Someone needs to repost this message under the thread we had a few days ago, where some people were saying we “shouldn’t worry”.... while we were asking what our schools are doing to protect from this sort of thing. Apparently.. nothing
Actually, Europeans tend to cross sevens. In fact, in the United States, Amateur radio operators also cross their sevens and zeros, because when you’re copying morse code traffic (or even voice) it helps to differentiate between Oh and Zero. And a lot of people make a ONE that looks like a Seven.
It’s a hoax
A couple of Disney postcards in there too.
October 10 surprise or just a kid’s prank?
Bump to save my place.
A handwriting analyst could probably tell a lot about the characteristics of the person who sent them.
BTTT!
Thanks for the ping velveeta.
geez.
