September 17, 2007 Reid Statement On Mukasey Nomination To Attorney General
WASHINGTON, DCSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today in response President Bushs nomination of Michael B. Mukasey as the next Attorney General:
Im glad President Bush listened to Congress and put aside his plan to replace Alberto Gonzales with another partisan Administration insider. Judge Mukasey has strong professional credentials and a reputation for independence. A man who spent 18 years on the federal bench surely understands the importance of checks and balances and knows how to say no to the President when he oversteps the Constitution.
But there should be no rush to judgment. The Senate Judiciary Committee must carefully examine Judge Mukaseys views on the complex legal challenges facing the nation. I look forward to meeting Judge Mukasey, and I will work with Chairman Leahy to ensure a full airing of the issues presented by his nomination.
Why would a good judge leave his post for a 16 month stint sucking tail wind from the leftist scum in charge of congress?
Bush appears to be sucking up to the dems, but I’d love to think that perhaps he is saving Ted Olsen for the Supreme position. Ever hopeful, sure been disappointed in Bush.
Send that memo to Pombo also becuase they didnt vote for him either
“...perhaps he is saving Ted Olsen for the Supreme position.”
I hope he is, too. But, I am afraid that Justices Stevens and Ruth-Buzzi Ginsberg will hang on until after the next election, in the hope that a RAT will be elected.
Looks like Bush asked the libs who they wanted, and they chose this guy.
Well, Bush seems able and willing to confront the Republican Base re. Amnesty on a regular basis.
Sadly, you are correct.
Why the president would consider it more prudent to confront his allies than to confront his enemiesis is a real mystery.
It is not merely cynical (as bad as that would be). It is downright unintelligent.
Ah...yeah I’m from Medford/Marlton area originally....
This and Chucky Cheese’s statement scare me.
ted olsen would make a great justice except for the fact of his age.
