September 17, 2007 Reid Statement On Mukasey Nomination To Attorney General
WASHINGTON, DCSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today in response President Bushs nomination of Michael B. Mukasey as the next Attorney General:
Im glad President Bush listened to Congress and put aside his plan to replace Alberto Gonzales with another partisan Administration insider. Judge Mukasey has strong professional credentials and a reputation for independence. A man who spent 18 years on the federal bench surely understands the importance of checks and balances and knows how to say no to the President when he oversteps the Constitution.
But there should be no rush to judgment. The Senate Judiciary Committee must carefully examine Judge Mukaseys views on the complex legal challenges facing the nation. I look forward to meeting Judge Mukasey, and I will work with Chairman Leahy to ensure a full airing of the issues presented by his nomination.
I just simply loathe this elitist jerk.
Looks like Bush picked someone who should sail through the confirmation process. Guess you’ve got to pick your battles and this one wasn’t one Bush wanted a fight over.
Next time, win some elections, listen to your base and you won't have to put up with this garbage. This is what happens when conservatives stay home. Still want amnesty?
Harry Reid is pond scum.
Why do we need an AG for the next 16 months until Bush is done, why not leave the acting AG in place and finish the term? Perks and bene’s for another hack?
Anything that makes Dingey Harry happy cannot be good for this country.

IOW, Patrick Leahy, Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy still get to bloviate about the unconstitutional Bush administration while holding “hearings”. And once confirmed, they will do everything they can to frame Mukasey as some criminal so they can paint the administration as unethical.
Jezey boy, eh? Me too...where abouts?

Translation of Reid’s statement:
“I’m glad you didn’t pick someone that passes your litmus test!
You know we HATE litmus tests!
Now, let’s see if he passes our litmus test
I'm disgusted that Bush is being dictated to by the Socialists/Liberal Elitists, but sense that this would not happen without a quid-pro-quo. What was exchanged (conceded) by the Dim's that won't be made public?
Or, worst case, is this lame-duck Presidnet going to bend over and grab his ankles everytime one of the Dim's wants to make a political "statement"?????
Presidnet=President
Who is Mukasey?
Reid is a nasty little man. Even though he seems "happy" about the pick he can't resist injecting his comments with some venom.
The Democrats are in the “We support this qualified jurist with impeccable credentials” phase. The week after he is sworn in, they will transition seamlessly into the “The Attorney General is a partisan hack, who may have engaged in criminal activities” phase.
Well we dipped in the ried and this litmus test is over.
Anyone know what orange stands for?
Orange you thrilled that Ried lauds this guy?
President Bush, what the...
Perfectly stated and 100% accurate.
Or, worst case, is this lame-duck Presidnet going to bend over and grab his ankles everytime one of the Dim's wants to make a political "statement"?????
My fear is that the latter is the case.
It is one thing to pick one's battles carefully. It is quite another to flee the battlefield in terror, while frenetically hoisting the white flag, as it appears President Bush has done here. (The metaphor is not necessarily mixed, but does require a bit of imagination.)
Since Congress's approval rating is about 15 points lower than the president's--and the Senate is, after all, one chamber of Congress--it makes no sense at all to me that the president would suppose that he could not win a confrontation with either chamber of Congress.
Appeasement is no more becoming here than it is in international relations.
