"Just goes to show that folks inclined to distrust the President will latch onto any headline that will ‘prove’ their point, even if the headline is misleading."

Rush Limbaugh mentioned this story and he fully accepted it as presented. He did however state that he'll personally wait for Bush to say it himself before he judges it. Still, he never doubted the story or the source, he just decided to protect Bush, as he usually does, until something becomes absolutely irrefutable. For example, until the massive outcry against illegal alines, Rush wasn't nearly so vocal about the problem as he was after it became clear the public has had it with them. The Republican Party has left its conservative roots, and each and every day more and more conservatives become aware of it. Just read the FR comments about Bush and look at the last Senate election, that's all you'll need to know. God save America from liberals and RINOS.

I've read the FR comments about Bush, and long ago came to the conclusion that conservatives can get BDS just as bad as liberals and the media. Folks here said they were blindsided by Bush's stand on immigration. They wouldn't have been if they'd been listening to him for the last 6 years. He talked about it a lot when he was running in 2000, and again in 2004. Mainly he wanted to provide an opportunity for those who wanted to come here to work, with work cards, etc. By making sure those folks are signed up, we can keep better track of them, and they won't have has much of a chance to get lost in the country as they have for the last 30 years. Also, it is less likely for them to be taken advantage of by their employers. And if they know they can get in legally, with work cards, most will do just that, rather than try to sneak over the border, trashing the lands of ranchers and farmers along the way.

Now some folks don't like that idea, but there is a need for labor in this country, yes, for the jobs that Americans don't want to do. How many Americans would line up for jobs picking tomatoes or grapes or cucumbers, if the farmers put up a sign in the local Employment office? Not very many, I'd say. Most Americans, even those who are the most poor, think they are above that work. Heck, they even scoff at indoor jobs at McD's or Burger King; remember the howling about 'hamburger flipping' jobs?

Anyway, President Bush has done a good job for this country, and even some of those who don't like his stand on immigration will grudgingly admit it. But there are way too many who want to trash his entire Presidency, and assign nefarious motives to everything he does, because they've been so blinded with their anger and animosity.
