Blah, blah, blah, Hunter can’t win, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Who cares? Ronald Reagan isn’t conservative enough for me!
Hunter has my vote, period, end of story.

Well I think Fred would enjoy taking Dick Cheney’s role of occasionally hiding out in “undisclosed locations” and giving the Dems fits about his personally successful life inspite of a sort of serious health condition so’s they dare not impeach President Hunter, don’tcha think?

Consistency on this issue (abortion) is the key to unlocking a candidate’s character. It’s not an issue where a candidate has the option of changing his mind. If he ever denied the right to life, he displayed a deep flaw in his character that should eliminate him from further consideration.
***That’s about how I see it as well. Duncan Hunter fits the bill. Fred doesn’t.

“Another sticking point is the popular perception, nourished by the media, that there are two tiers of candidates: those who are “credible” candidates the media views as capable of winning the nomination the so-called front-runners and those who the media elites declare unelectable”
AMEM!! We seem to have our own ‘elites’ here, too. They must be proud to have so much in common with the liberal media elites.

"before you start downing Fred"I was NOT "downing Fred!" I was just verbalizing presumptions about what roles I think he's best able to fill, sorta like you presume that for some completely unknown, or unknowable reason Duncan should never be perceived as anything other than some kind of "also ran" and not be given any further serious consideration just because you say so.

It’s not because I say so, it’s because of polls and straw polls. While they might not be perfectly accurate , they are a fair indicator . Hunter quite simply appears to be having trouble gaining traction .

“I’ve noticed all this talk about front-runners and second tier is based entirely on media created perceptions”
Isn’t it amazing how so many conservatives(?) dutifully fall in line with the liberal media’s pronouncments? It’s time to say “screw you, media!” It’s time that clear thinking conservatives pick the best candidate of our choosing, not the media or the political insiders. It’s time to get behind the best conservative candidate we have had in ages, Duncan Hunter!!!!
It’s also time to tell all the naysayers, “Get the hell out of our way! You bug me!” :)

This construction becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Voters, convinced that only the ordained front-runners have a chance, find their choices limited to the front-runners and dutifully pick and choose from among their number. The second tier of candidates are thus automatically eliminated from the contest. This is a lousy way to choose the candidate you want running America for the next four years. Among that second tier are men of probity and competence who stand head and shoulders above the top tier yet are ruled out of the competition by what is an exercise in false logic.
It's what I've been saying for years. We defeat ourselves by succumbing to this "he can't win" mentality, especially when it's early in the game. Do not listen to the talking heads. Vote your head and your conscience. Volunteer. Donate. Do something! Just don't let somebody else pick your candidate for you.

It is...but between various noncitizen interests contribution millions to campaigns and the media doing their best to promote Republican candidates friendly to gays, abortion, and illegals it's not surprising.

Great article pissant! Thanks for the thread.

Look at how easily the MSM has stacked the deck against conservative candidates. Even here, in these hallowed halls of conservatism, conservatives are polling 25%. It should be a lesson to us in just how effective this strategy is.
It leaves conservatives with the same Hobson's Choice in the primary as we face in the general election: The lesser of two evils.
It cannot be said enough, and especially this year, wherein TRUST is the main issue facing Republicans: Republicans always lose when they compromise their principles.
