email from Jim BORN ANGRY Webb on his troop amendment

Posted on 09/19/2007 8:29:48 AM PDT by Gopher Broke

Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2007 13:26:19 GMT From: "Jim Webb" Subject: Stop Burning Out The Troops

Dear Friend,

This Dwell Time Amendment provides a safety net under our troops. However long a servicemember has been deployed, they deserve at least that much time at home. It is a very simple, common sense amendment. For the sake of our servicemembers and their families, this is the right thing to do.

Click here to email your Senators!

Today, Senator Chuck Hagel and I will reintroduce an amendment that seeks to provide our men and women in uniform with the responsible rotational cycles they deserve.

We will be offering an amendment that requires our troops have a 1:1 deployment-to-dwell ratio for active units and members. This is a minimum floor. The Department of Defense's historic policy and current goal is a ratio of 1:2. Currently, Army units are deployed for 15 months with 12 months at home. It is not unusual for Marines also to have less time at home than the length of their last deployment.

This amendment is vital to the continued morale and effectiveness of our Armed Forces, which are breaking under the strain of unprecedented long deployments in combat zones.

Please email your Senators before today's vote. Encourage them to support my Dwell Time Amendment to support our troops.

This Dwell Time Amendment provides a safety net under our troops. However long a servicemember has been deployed, they deserve at least that much time at home. It is a very simple, common sense amendment.

In July, my amendment received 56 votes. We need just 4 more votes this time to pass this amendment, and I am asking for your help.

Please take a moment now, and send a message to your Senators to support the Dwell Time Amendment.

After 4 1/2 years of occupation in Iraq, it is time for the availability of troops to dictate the operational tempo, not the other way around. I hope you will join me in supporting this important legislation. Then help me spread the word to friends and family across the country. For the sake of our servicemembers and their families, this is the right thing to do.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb

This Dwell Time Amendment provides a safety net under our troops.

So tired of 'safety net'--my Govenor is protecting the 'safety net' to the detriment of the State of Michigan. We need to adjust to the climate.

Maybe the war can just take a vacation when we send the troops home for their rotational cycle. I am sure the insurgents would do the same and just rest till we get back to the fight. What a bunch of idiots these congress dopes are. Who in the name of goodness votes for them? Surely the country hasn’t go down the tubes that far!! (Yet)

email from Dem party of VA, pushing Webb’s Bill.....

It’s time for all of us who support our troops to stand up and act!

Today in the United States Senate our own Sen. Webb is locked in a battle against the Bush administration to make sure our troops are safe, mentally, emotionally and physically healthy, and able to serve. His bipartisan Dwell Time amendment would make sure that our men and women serving overseas have as much time at home with their families as they have being deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Webb’s Dwell Time amendment calls for a 1:1 deployment-to-dwell time ratio for all active duty servicemen and women.

Call Sen. John Warner today and tell him to support Sen. Webb’s Dwell Time amendment. Our troops- and their families- are depending on him!

Senator John Warner

Washington, DC: (202) 224-2023

District offices
Midlothian: (804) 739-0247
Norfolk: (757) 441-3079
Abingdon: (276) 628-8158
Roanoke: (540) 857-2676

You can read more about Sen. Webb’s amendment here, and watch his explanation of it here.

Sen. Webb’s Dwell Time amendment would help keep our soldiers safe. This is one of the ways we should support our troops! This is exactly the kind of work Democrats are doing- finding real solutions to problems in spite of constant Republican obstructionism!

Let’s see . . .

There are approximately 1 billion Muslims worldwide, an estimated 15% of which are radicalized, which equals 150 million Islamofacists that want to either: 1) Kill all of us (Americans & Israelis), 2) Force us convert to Islam, or 3) Force us to pay tribute.

Its the U.S. military (under 1 million patriots) vs. 150 million crazy, screaming Muslims.

Its simple math that we now need to bring back the draft and significantly build up our military even stronger. More importantly, the Gospel taken to more Muslim lands will open more closed minds and hearts to Almighty God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I’m beginning to believe Webb’s heart is in the right place. His head however is full of mush.

We are not in an “occupation”. We are in a war. We cannot let anything other than victory become the overriding priority in fighting this war.

Maybe mr fighting mad jim needs a refresher. My Dad, a Marine, deployed in 1942 with the 3DMARDIV and did not return until 1945 after being seriously wounded on IWO. He fought in Guadacanal, Bouganville, Guam and Iwo. The old model was we go in and stay until you win, get killed or wounded. I know it is a new DoD, I too spent 6 years in the Marines, but this is nonsense. The old rotational model was based on a 4 rifle company battalion. This enabled a company to stand down while the Battalion continued to fight. We now have a three company battalion and rotate them in and out of country every six months. It would be easier for all concerned to flag the Regiments in Iraq and Afghanistan and rotate individuals through the standing units. Lost less costly this way also.
