FBI suppressed video of TWA explosion

Recovered debris from TWA 800

More than six years after retired United Airline captain Ray Lahr launched his Freedom of Information Act petition into the fate of TWA Flight 800, the FBI has shown him –likely by accident – one seriously smoking gun.

The Boeing 747 blew up off the coast of Long Island on July 17, 1996. One of the FBI documents received recently by Lahr and his attorney details a communication that took place six days after the crash:

"The FBI guy who looked at this must not have read it, or not have realized what it would reveal, Otherwise he would have redacted most of it as before."

when he was in office, my cousin and i thought it would be decades before we found out all the damage he did to this country...it took 8 months for it to start showing, but i believe with my entire being it will be found that he was a mole for the communist and that he tried to hurt this nation, not counting on the problem of a republican congress! After all it had been 40 years since that had happened!

In his book Cover Up: What the Government Is Still Hiding About the War on Terror, Peter Lance wrote that TWA 800 was blown up by a bomb intended to disrupt the trial of terrorist Ramzi Yousef, the nephew of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and planner of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Lance claimed that the FBI had prior knowledge of this plot from a prison informant, but did not act on it.[35]

To be honest I think the plane that went down over a suburbs of NYC in October of 01, was also a terrorist attack.

They caught shoe bomb boy (well the passangers caught him not the government) not long after that crash.

While I was attending my va medical retirement classes in San Diego, there was a Navy diver who stated that he was there on the recovery site and there were SEALs there & they were moving the missile parts off into deeper water so no one could ever find them.

I did dismiss this as a “sea story” but it does make you wonder though.......

I saw the radar recording that showed the aircraft and then showed a smaller blip spiral towards the larger one. The spiraling was classic missile trajectory in terminal guidance mode. (the spiraling was not around the craft but a helical motion along trajectory of missile.)

Did you join FR just to say that? I suggest you read JC’s book, you might change your mind. If you are calling the theory embarrasing, then you are calling a lot of credible people and WITNESSES embarrasing. The 9/11 conspiracy is embarrasing. It based on speculation not actual witnesses to the secret government plan to pull it off.

I saw that video too. He inadvertently referred to it as “the TWA 800 bombing”.

Flight 587. I believe it was exactly that, as well.

“Jack Cashill is entertaining but WND is a conspiracy rag.”

Correct, but the DOCUMENTS appear to show that videos are being suppressed. Forget the “who” for a moment, and ask about the “what and why”.

Were videos suppressed?

What was on the videos?

Why are they being suppressed?

Intentional disinfo to put investigators in cover up mode? The clintons were pros at this type of stuff.

U.S. focused on Iran after TWA 800 explosion

Manage Alerts | What Is This? WASHINGTON (CNN) — The White House, suspecting terrorism, readied plans for retaliation in the Middle East when TWA Flight 800 exploded over the ocean in 1996 after takeoff from New York, killing all 230 people on board.

“I think our first thought when we got the news was that it was terrorism,” President Clinton’s national security adviser, Anthony Lake, told “CNN Presents” as part of an investigative documentary airing Saturday and Sunday.

“We especially wanted to look for an Iranian connection.”

In fact, terrorism was ultimately found not to be the cause, but twice before Boeing 747s had been bombed out of the sky — Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland in 1988, with 270 dead; and an Air India flight off Ireland in 1985, with 329 killed.

Within hours of the TWA explosion, security officials were meeting at the White House to discuss possible bombing raids as retaliation, once they knew who might be responsible. (Watch a clip from “CNN Presents: No Survivors” — 2:40 )

“The administration has done initial planning for response to various suspects if they’re implicated in this,” a White House official told CNN several days later.

Iran was the leading suspect because the intelligence community believed it was behind the deaths of 19 American military service members in a bomb attack on the Khobar Towers military housing complex in Saudi Arabia only three weeks earlier. Ultimately, the U.S. government said the Iranian-backed Hezbollah was responsible for that attack.

Also, a U.S. guided missile cruiser had shot down an Iranian jetliner, by accident, over the Persian Gulf in the summer of 1988, killing 290 people.

James Kallstrom, the leading FBI investigator on the TWA 800 case, told CNN, “If this was an act of terrorism, it had an awful lot of consequences.”

But as weeks began to pass and no evidence surfaced, top officials began to question the terrorism theory.

“We were not getting information to that effect,” then-Chief of Staff Leon Panetta said. “No one was taking credit for it.” (Watch officials discuss the terror climate after TWA 800 — :38)

Eventually, the FBI found no evidence of terrorism and the National Transportation Safety Board concluded TWA 800 was the victim of a center fuel tank explosion, most likely caused by a spark in its vapor-filled center tank directly below the passenger compartment.

The White House did take some steps, however, against terrorism after the TWA catastrophe.

President Clinton, meeting with victims’ families a week after the crash, launched a safety commission headed by Vice President Al Gore.

Among its recommendations: improve screening at airports, require identification for all passengers and match bags to those on board. All would eventually be adopted.

But one recommendation went largely unnoticed and unheeded.

“The FBI and CIA should develop a system that would allow important intelligence information on known or suspected terrorists to be used in passenger profiling,” the commission concluded.

The CIA and FBI, which often failed to share information with each other, subsequently did little or nothing to help the Federal Aviation Administration create an airport watch list for terrorists.

After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, the 9/11 Commission referred to that ignored Gore recommendation in its own report when it wrote: “As of 9/11, the FAA’s ‘no-fly’ list contained the names of just 12 terrorist suspects.”

Chief of Staff Leon Panetta said. “No one was taking credit for it.”

What a fool-let’s dismiss it because no one fessed up

At least I'm not the only one who thinks so.

No, you're not. Sandy Berger, Richard Clarke and the rest of the Clinton administration find it equally embarrassing.

I cant say.

What I do know is that Mr Cashill has made a career of conspiracy and that I watched Mega Fix, and while I was entertained I was not convinced.

Jack used a lot of flimsy evidence IMHO
I watched it years ago. Don’t ask me to recite it here, but he used a load of speculation to build his case.

I’m not buying it, but I wouldn’t rule it out either.

If we always deny that a terrorist has shot down a plane, then we render the terrorists’ attacks useless—because their acts of terror will never be known.

Unless they blow up a dozen of them simultaneously or decide to start slamming them into skyscrapers. The deny and frustrate approach literally blew up in our face. We should have acknowledged and fought back.

I don’t absolutely know if it’s true, but there were several stories back then about Chinese modifications of the shoulder held missiles of that time, which could have reached the required altitude.

So I don’t think it can absolutely be said that a terrorist missile can be ruled out on that basis.

This conspiracy stuff is embarrasing.

Yes, the FBI always takes the lead on investigations of faulty airplane equipment. Where they have absolutely no jurisdiction.

Right, no conspiracy here.

Did his spook buddies mention the drone test that was going on at the time?
