After reading all the reports on this at the time and over the following years, it seems to me that the evidence was overwhelming that TWA 800 was brought down by a missile.
Several witnesses who had been airforce pilots testified that the explosion was the wrong color for a fuel explosion. And there were numerous other problems with the official explanation.
If it was a missile, then there were two possibilities raised at the time: terrorists in a small boat, or a stray missile from the US naval exercise in the area.
In my opinion, the second theory can be ruled out. If a missile went astray during the exercise, I doubt that it would be possible to keep it secret, since there would have been numerous witnesses on the ship in question, and keeping a secret among that many people just isn’t feasible.
That leaves the other alternative, and a plausible explanation for why it was hushed up: clinton didn’t want to have to do anything in response to a Muslim terrorist attack. So he ordered the FBI to cover it up.
Keeping that secret is far more plausible, because the clintonoids in the FBI who were responsible were at high levels and eminently blackmailable. An ordinary sailor wouldl have no strong reasons to keep the secret, but a high-level FBI agent implicated in clintonoid corruption certainly would.
If the fuel tank failed (and that is extremely unlikely, technically), then why wasn’t Boeing sued? The obvious answer is that Boeing refused to go along with a bogus story that discredited them until clinton agreed to hold them harmless.

Sounds like additions to the list of people who died suspiciously, surrounding the clintoonistas, however many were on board.

You are right, it isn't feasible and lots of people know and have talked about it. But no one believes them. Nuts and sluts works very well and screaming "conspiracy theorist" is also effective (as practiced by some characters here). You can't keep something this big secret but you can destroy credibility easily and you can confuse people with bs.

...he obvious answer is that Boeing refused to go along with a bogus story that discredited them until clinton agreed to hold them harmless Boeing, I think, was bribed by the Clinton Administration into taking the fall. The payoff? --Assurance of MFN status for China( =$$$$$ for Boeing). Oh--and it was also a plus for Boeing that people were not generally terrified of getting shot down while flying to Grandmother's house.
I went to an airshow this summer and the FAA had a display up...STILL peddling their story of TWA 800. Why won't they let it go it's a decade later? Why?

Another possibility was put forward by James Sanders in his Downing of TWA Flight 800. He says the terrorists intended to ram a airliner departing JFK with a smaller plane packed with explosives. US intelligence learned of the plot and alerted the US Navy. The Navy attempted to shoot down the smaller plane with two missiles. One hit TWA800, which explains the propellant residue, and the other hit the smaller plane, which explains the large, non-fuel explosion external to TWA800, but close enough that the concussion destroyed it.
The Clinton administration covered it up because the Olympics were to start in a few days and many participant teams would not have been able to fly in if the US shut down air traffic on the east coast. Also, the nominating convention was just months away.

Agreed.
Also, it was also less than four months until the presidential election so Clinton surely didn’t want anything other than “accident” as a news story.
