Republican presidential contender Fred Thompson pushed his West Virginia campaign into another gear Thursday, naming a veteran of state GOP politics to be state campaign director.
Friends of Fred Thompson announced Gary Abernathy, an Ohio native and former state Republican Party executive director, will head Thompsons West Virginia efforts.
Gary Abernathy brings a wealth of grassroots and communications experience to our organization in West Virginia, said Randy Enwright, Thompsons national political director. His political and communications experience, along with his knowledge of issues specific to West Virginia, will be a great asset to our campaign.
Thompson is one of 10 GOP presidential contenders to file to participate in the states GOP convention. Party members will vote in early January to elect more than 1,400 delegates to the state convention, which will be held early in the day on Feb. 5. The winner gets the votes of 18 state delegates.

Well, every campaign could use a good Elvis impersonator, I guess...
Then there’s Alan Keyes, who has been known to impersonate a real candidate from time to time.
How’s about a head-to-head three hour unmoderated debate between Alan and your guy on the issues that confront our free republic?
So, is your guy ever going to debate anyone?
Alan Keyes is the most intelligent candidate in the race and probably totally correct on the issues where being a conservative is concerned, however, if you think any of the other candidates don’t have a chance to win the nomination, he is far below them.
Great guy, great orator, no chance of winning.
While I’m sure Keyes would love the attention, why would Fred want to elevate a nobody like him with a one on one debate?
That would be a serious waste of Fred’s valuable time.
I’m sure he’d be happy to debate Rudy Giuliani though.
Lose the attitude. Alan Keyes is not a nobody. Have a little respect and class.
Once Alan Keyes breaks whole numbers in the polls we’ll talk.
Yeah, I know him.

Kinda like the "nobodies" in New Hampshire, the Values Voters down in Fort Lauderdale, and the folks at Morgan State next Thursday? Okey-dokey...
By the way, I wasn’t kidding. Abernathy IS a great Elvis impersonator.
And that’s a good thing. I like the fact that Fred surrounds himself with people who can do the job and have a life as well.
I was a big Keys fan until he started supporting reparations while running for the senate.
I would never consider voting for him now. Kind of like Newt, I was a fan until he conceded global warming was man made and the only debate left was what to do about it.
That’s it, those are two issues I won’t give an INCH on!
That would be all well and good, if he actually supported reparations. But, he doesn’t.
Unfortunately, you’ve allowed yourself to be herded right where the Democrat Media wants you to be.
Just so you can educate yourself, straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak:

I last heard the Morgan State debate was off. As in NOBODY is going to be debating there.
