A woman who walked into Logan International Airport allegedly wearing a fake bomb strapped to chest was arrested at gunpoint Friday, officials said.

Star Simpson, 19, had a computer circuit board, wiring and a putty that later turned out to be Play-Doh in plain view over a black hooded sweatshirt she was wearing, said State Police Maj. Scott Pare, the commanding officer at the airport.

After a Massachusetts Port Authority official notified State Police about 8 a.m., troopers tracked Simpson down outside Terminal C, where they arrested her and later determined the device was a fake.

Parents still naming children “Star” in the late 80s? Maybe they were fans of Lost Boys movie?

Anyway, death by cop wish.

If any further evidence were needed, this certainly indicates that not one lick of common sense is necessary for admission to an elite university.

Surprisingly this is not that uncommon. This one just was a bit more blatant and hit the news. It usually seems to be a self serving “liberal liberator of the people” who is trying to make a political statement. In one case that made the news at SFO few years ago couple made up a fake device for their check on baggage. They wanted it to be found along with a note that made a “political statement” against government goons/Nazis etc. Result bag pulled, bag owner pulled and arrested. Probably wonders why they are on a no fly list now.

In another more action oriented case a young male came off an inbound flight down the concourse directly into the security checkpoint dancing and prancing holding his back pack up tauntingly stating “I got a ( B-word)”. He chose to go into a group of security supervisors I guess expecting no response. He was violently dog-pile tackled to the ground. The local PD intervened, cuffed him, searched him and threw him in a holding area just off the checkpoint where he sat spewing obscenities non stop. . I personally witnessed this from about 15 ft away. It was very fast and heard (can’t verify)he got his wrist broken in the cuffing/altercation.
Ironically the personnel involved were reprimanded by higher management for violations of agency policy.

You’d have to be sure to stand way back though.

I never could figure out why some people thought making their hair look like the underside of an old dustmop was attractive.

“Even better...FNC is reporting that the woman is an “artist”.”

Dead liberal with stupid t-shirt. What a statement that would have made in the art community.

Unbelievable in this day and age that she thought this was funny or didn’t realize or forogt it was on-C’mon! Between this moron and the Tazered kid from Kerry speech I just don’t get it! This is how to have fun or how to get on YOU Tube? Do they worry at all about not getting future employment? I wouldn’t hire either of these two idiots no matter about their gpa. I’m at a loss and worry about these idiots running the country in a few years. Void of any common sense or logic.

Agreed—at least she co-operated with the directions from
police or she’d be dead, unlike the disobediance shown
by TaserBoy (well, he wouldn’t have been killed but would not have been shocked). If that were to happen the parents would
sue because of her needless death/suicide by cop.

Boston Herald:
Simpson pleaded innocent today to a charge of disorderly conduct and possession of a hoax device at East Boston District Court. Her bail was set at $750. Prosecutors were seeking $5,000.

Her boyfriend Tim Anderson posted her $750 bail soon after.

“She’s a wonderful person,” said Anderson who refused further comment at the court.

Simpson was arrested at gunpoint at lower Terminal C with the circuit board and battery attached to her chest this morning.

Simpson is lucky she cooperated with state police, a Massport spokesman said.

“If she hadn’t done exactly what they told her to do, she’d be lying in a morgue right now instead of sitting in a cell awaiting arraignment,” said Matthew Brelis.

Simpson is a native of Hawaii who studies electrical engineering and computer science at MIT, according to her profile on her college Web site.

As for the device: “She wanted to stand out on career day,” state police Major Scott Pare said Simpson told police.

(After this her best job might be “do you want fries
with that?—raccoonradio)

Simpson arrived at Terminal C at 8 a.m. today wearing the device with lights and wires strapped around her hooded sweatshirt, according to Massport. The device was connected to a hand-held putty device, said Massport spokeswoman Lisa Langone.

“It turned out to be a hoax device,” Langone said. “It had some lights and wires.”

The putty turned out to be Play-Doh.

Simpson describes herself on her MIT Web site as “an inventor, artist, engineer and student.”

“I love to build things and I love crazy ideas,” she writes.

cont.: Simpson studies computers and how they work and she also works in a student-run machine shop, according to the site.

Before she enrolled at MIT, she traveled the world “saving the planet from evil villains with my delivered-just-in-time gadgets,” according to her site.

The gadget that Simpson allegedly had strapped to her chest this morning drew attention immediately, said Langone.

Simpson walked up to an information desk manned by a Massport official and asked about a male passenger on an incoming Continental flight from Oakland, authorities said. That passenger turned out to be her boyfriend.

When the Massport employee asked Simpson about the device, she walked away and the worker contacted state police. State police, explosive experts and canines swarmed the area, and found Simpson outside on an island on the lower roadway.
