Rising State and Local Tax Burden Crowds Federal Tax Policy by JD Foster, Ph.D. WebMemo #1628
Federal and total tax collections in the United States are at an all-time high in nominal terms and are rising steadily, and federal receipts as a share of gross domestic product (GDP) are again above the post-war average. At the same time, state and local tax receipts are also rising as a share of GDP toward their all-time high. Against this backdrop, many Members of Congress are looking to raise taxes even higher to fund a wide ranging expansion in federal spending, but they may be in for a surprise. The sustained rise in the state and local tax share is likely to stiffen public resistance to higher federal taxes.

I know...I love the morons screaming for “free healthcare” as if the funding somehow is grown on trees.
It does, it grows on your trees. They will send a friendly agent with guns to pick your trees.
I don’t have health coverage but I’m not gripping. However, I’m gripping about free health coverage to illegals.
Watch and see-the next thing they’ll tax is the Internet. At what point do people in this country stand up and say “No more!” These lazy deadbeats need to get off their fat welfare collecting, enttilement asses and stop looking for free handouts. Of course its the liberal kooks that are slowly but surely making them dependent on all the rest of them to pay for all their services.

IMHO, there is some merit to the idea of a medically driven economy. We ARE going to have to deal with the reality of millions of aging baby boomers with Alzheimer's and other debilitating geriatric diseases. We can't just throw them in the streets.
A medical economy makes more sense than one centered around the military industrial complex... if only we didn't have ideological enemies who want to kill us.
I agree with your sentiments. However, I would correct one thing that you wrote: the boomers will not drain the Social Security fund because there is no such fund to drain. The so-called trust funds consist of IOUs in a filing cabinet somewhere.
The mass retirement of the boomers may at last force us to face the truth about Social Security: it is a Ponzi scheme, and ultimately unsustainable.
So how will you fund it?
Here’s a thought — the congressional politicos could give up some of their perks — why should the taxpayers pay for their vacations which they try to pass off as junkets for other purposes when all they’re doing is living it up like kings and queens.
We need to make them quit it.
The New Deal. The gift that keeps on giving...or taking. Thanks Roosevelt you POS.

How about November 2008?
What I don’t understand is if the approval rating for congress is at an all-time low of 11% and still sinking, how come these big bags of wind keep getting re-elected?
Are they so insulated from the consequences of social deterioration that they have no cares in the world.? Or are they just plain dumb?
But you have Internet access, a computer, and...
Like I need a study to know this....(chuckle)
My favorite family lib is an excellent example of their thinking -
I quote: “The money’s out there”
That it belongs to someone else didn’t even register.

LOL!! You are correct! Don’t ask for logical specifics...the leftist brain isn’t wired for it.

Did the thought of purposeful destruction of society as we know it not occur to you as a possibility? I understand, it's hard to fathom for a rational mind. But we aren't dealing with rational people.
We're dealing with people with an irrational desire to drastically change America. And the only way they can do it, since their vision can't successfully compete with the traditional viewpoint, is to completely destroy the current society.
