If Fred Thompson were to make a mistake like this, you could be sure that Fox News and Dick Morris would be all over it. They'd be harping that Fred was flopping, or that he was lazy, or that he needs to hit the books and not make mistakes or blunders like this.

Did I hear that right?
"After all the second amendment is a freedom every bit as important as the other freedoms in the first ten amendments. Just think of the language of it -- 'the people shall be secure' --let's see, this is my wife calling..."
That's funny, I thought that was the first line of the 4th Amendment?
Oh that's right it is!..........

I’m a Thompson supporter but I have to applaud McCain for taking it to Code Pink when they tried to shake him up.
Thanks for telling me. I did not know it had yet been noticed!
Rudy’s trying to side-stepp the issue that he’s a New York Liberal (and an Anti-Second Amendment PC Gun-Grabber)!
with no discipline,,,,
with no common sense,,,
with no self-control,,,and
with absolutely no respect for others.
Rooty's ignorance of the Constitution and Bill of Rights needs to be screamed from every rooftop. IMO dupe threads on this should be overlooked by the Mods. Maybe with enough of them someone in the MSM will pick it up.
Plus given Rooty's ignorance and utter disdain for the rule of law I can't believe Reagan appointed him while he had his full facilities. Unless RR did it while 'half napping' and when he fully awoke he said, "Holy ____, I appointed who!?!?"
Or the cell phone was strategically used to interrupt the thread of where he was going so he could obscure it or the original point and make an unnoticed course or topic correction.

Giuliani gets the second amendment completely wrong in NRA speech

It was about as appropriate as John Kerry's pathetic comment about the length of his 'hair',,,when asked (on a Sunday morning talk-show which showed the videotape) about his anti-war activities during Vietnam. Shallow, patronizing, insulting and pathetic.
It shows how little common sense and how little class Rudy has.
RUDY: Hello dear...
AIDE: You flippin’ IDIOT! You just said the people shall be secure... That’s the 4th Amendment! They want to hear about GUNS! Remember? The SECOND Amendment.
RUDY: I’m talking to the members of the NRA right now.
AIDE: Yeah... the wife thing—Good cover. Now, you need to pick the conversation back up and put it on topic. Cut to the part about the Parker Decision.
RUDY: Would you like to say hello? (He laughs, apparently at something she says.) I love you and I’ll give you a call as soon as I’m finished, OK?
AIDE: You don’t remember the Parker decision? Damn it! Start on Page 3. Just read the speech and quit ad libbing this thing! You are screwing up, big time!
RUDY: OK, have a safe trip, bye-bye. Talk to you later dear, I love you.
Like she had NO IDEA he would be there at that time. /s
This was one of the more pathetic stunts any politician has tried. Something this lame, shallow and transparent is a stunt you would expect from a rookie--not a seasoned speaker and accomplished politician.
If this was the first time--I think he should get a pass. But the second time? Give me a break. I guess his staff never thought of his cellphone either. /s
Regardless of his motivation--it's pretty darn sad and pathetic.
***************
Didn't most of Giuliani's liberal actions take place long after that, though?
Damn! That's good!
We need a CONSERVATIVE who will UNITE the Party and ENERGIZE the base--not a LIBERAL who will DIVIDE the Party and DEMORALIZE the base.
No problem at all — I emailed it to blogsforfredthompson late last night (in addition to NRO, redstate and captains quarters). Thank you for noticing this/giving it some attention — it seems like a big story for a candidate to forget the second amendment in his big NRA speech. UGH!
I’m going to send this to Drudge, too — you’re right, if it were any other candidate, this would be huge.
“This was one of the more pathetic stunts any politician has tried”
“Hi honny, did you try out that new pistol I bought you yet?”
Would have been even better :-)
Maybe Rudy DIDN’T KNOW the words of the 2nd Amendment, and that explains his bizarre “telephone call.” A diversion, an attempt to avoid the campaign-destroying reality that he has no clue about the 2nd Amendment, and can not even recite it.
I’d like to see the phone records to show whether that was an actual call (or did the phone audibly ring?)
Or if he wife were with other people at the time, who reported that she did not actually call him.
I wonder if Jennifer Rubin will jump all over Rudy for this in the AmSpec blog the way she jumps all over Fred for every little perceived mis-step.
Somehow I doubt it.
