The following is a letter written by Mitt Romney to the Washington Establishment. It is without a doubt one of the boldest statements made by a presidential candidate. As a Republican he says it exactly right. You may not support him, but if you are a true conservative you are going to agree with him. Many conservatives have already seen this letter and are taking it to heart.
Romney has been praised by many conservatives for taking this strong step toward getting our nation back on track. Richard A. Viguerie, author of Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. Bush and Other Big-Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause (Bonus Books, 2006), had this to say about Romney’s stance:
At last, a top-tier presidential candidate is paying attention to the discouraged, disheartened, and disillusioned base of the Republican Party. I commend Mitt Romney for urging the GOP leadership to return to its conservative values.By releasing an ad chastising the Republican leadership for its excessive spending, immigration amnesty, and ethical slackness, Governor Romney has taken a small but significant step toward reclaiming the GOP for the grassroots conservatives who are its backbone.

To my friends and fellow Republicans,Throughout our country’s long and remarkable journey, there have been “inflection points,” critical moments when political, economic, military and other forces converged to alter the course of our history.
We are at one of those inflection points today.
Forces of globalization, the rise of major new economic powerhouses such as China and India, and the emergence of radical Jihad have created a “perfect storm” that will change the course of our nation. We face unprecedented challenges in securing our borders, protecting the American family, and ending America’s dependence on foreign oil.
Our actions today will determine which course America will take. Will America remain the world’s economic and military superpower, able to preserve peace, progress, and prosperity? Will our children and grandchildren grow up with the same opportunities that have been our birthright for over two centuries? Will our uniquely America culture – a culture of family, patriotism, faith, and freedom – remain our foundation and lead a stronger America into the future?
I believe the American people can rise to these and every other challenge ahead of us. Yet, at this extraordinary moment in our nation’s history, our government is failing us. Washington is busy pointing fingers, assigning blame, and spending too much money. There is too much talk and too little action.
The blame, we must admit, does not belong to just one party. If we’re going to change Washington, Republicans have to put our own house in order.
We can’t be like Democrats – a party of big spending. We can’t pretend our borders are secure from illegal immigration. We can’t have ethical standards that are a punch-line for Jay Leno.
When Republicans act like Democrats, America loses.
It’s time for Republicans to start acting like Republicans. We have to remember who we are: We are not Big Government Republicans. We are not Washington Republicans. We are Change Washington Republicans. Democrats are not the change Washington needs. We are the change Washington needs and it’s time for Republicans like us to stand for that change again.
There is not a single challenge America faces that we can’t overcome with the innovation and passion that has always been at the heart of the American people. If we change Washington, I believe America can achieve anything.
It’s time for change in Washington and that change must begin with us.

I agree with every word in that letter, but I still want someone else for President.
Too bad we’ll never really know if he means this since he has flipped-flop on so many issues central to the conservative movement.
I know it is possible, however, I for one have never seen any evidence of him admitting he was wrong for his earlier positions.
Can anyone help me with evidence of this?
How could anyone vote for a man who doesn’t have the brains to realize he belongs to a cult?

So, I take it you are satisfied with the Republican Party as it stands? You like the way the Republicans have handled themselves in Washington over the last two, four, or six years? You like the status quo?
Or is this just a case of "if he's for it, I'm agin' it", without any substance to your criticism?
Neither Mitt or Rudy is ever going to come out and say that the liberal stances they took in liberal enclaves were wrong, and unconstitutional. All we will ever hear is more crap about”circumstances” in New York and Massachusetts. Mitt and Rudy are both creatures of government, no right is inalienable to them.
I started out with an open mind, and some hope, that honest answers would be forthcoming. It isn’t going to happen with either of the two. They simply do not understand.

I don't believe you want to see any evidence. You just wish to repeat the buzz words. But, on the off chance you are sincerely asking, read this interview.

That’s kinda like Bill Clinton issuing a “chastity and virtue manifesto.”
It’s nothing more than arm-waving. Deeds speak louder than words. Who needs another East Coast liberal?

Actually, his faith is not an issue with me. It's his liberal politics. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is no more a cult than most organized religions.
"Cult: noun - "a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies... a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc. 5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols "
Yes, there are other meaning of cults too - but the LDS church does not fit in that category.
As a matter of fact, Paul Harvey said that if the other churches followed the example of the Mormon Church in taking care of their own people and others in need, there would be no need for public welfare.
Ronald Reagan, George Herbert Walker Bush, George Bush all had meetings in Salt Lake City with the leaders of the church. It's hardly a cult.
Indeed, were it a "cult" in the connotation you infer, how do you explain that Harry Reid is also a Mormon? Members of a "cult", the way you mean, would all be in lockstep.
The same can be said of any position statement, by any candidate, taken alone. For example: "Security, Unity, Prosperity " - means diddly by itself. The question is, given the stated general position, has the candidate proposed viable policy ideas to achieve it? The armature and structure must be sought in those intended policies.
In this case, it is more than "change, change, change", but some specific things that Romney thinks needs to change. Spending excess. Ethical behavior. Border enforcement. I agree that these things do need to change, and now I shall look to see how he proposes to change them. And, since they are "front of mind", I shall also see how the other candidates still on my list are addressing them.
So, let me ask you; if the signature at the bottom of this letter had been Fred Thompson or Duncan Hunter, would you have written your post, with its cute little urinating sheep? Would you have just agreed and moved on? Or would you have looked to see if they had proposed actions that synced with the changes they said they desired?
Are you criticizing the position, or are you just criticizing the candidate taking it?
