Reading, Writing and Anti-Meth at school

"Life or Meth" DVDs are heading to all of Idaho's secondary schools to use in education programs to combat the growing methamphetamine problem in the Gem State and retired teachers are paying the freight.

State statistics show Idaho is in the top ten nationwide in methamphetamine abuse. Alarmingly, chocolate and strawberry-flavored methamphetamine wrapped like candy has been found in Idaho and the Idaho Education Association is sounding the alarm. The group's "Retired Task Force" is delivering "Life or Meth" DVDs to representatives of every secondary school in the state.

Sherri Wood with IEA tells SVO teachers can use the DVD in their classrooms to show how meth destroys lives.

"We have grown more concerned about the incredible damage that methamphetamine traffic and abuse is causing in our state," Wood notes. "And we are especially troubled by its effect on our youth."

Teachers will receive the DVDs after each school district receives them from the presidents of the local education association, IEA's Gayle Moore said Friday. Moore said the DVDs will be offered to each district's education association presidents as they attend a Saturday training at the IEA headquarters in Boise.

Blaine County's co-presidents are Donnette Thamert, a teacher at the new Woodside Elementary School and Mark Sauvageau of Hailey Elementary School.

Wood says it's time to erase Idaho's meth reputation.

"This is not acceptable to any Idaho citizen," Wood states." We are aware that Idaho is now in the top ten states for trafficking methamphetamine."

The Idaho Governor's office says 80 percent of the child placements by Health and Welfare are the result of parents incarcerated for drug abuse – and meth remains the drug of choice.

Methamphetamine is a truly ugly drug, and the peddlars in vice and dam’nation who make a profit from it should all hang.

Does anyone have an actual link to pix of these supposed meth candies?

I’m smelling Onion here.

[Methamphetamine is a truly ugly drug,]

Yep, Tyranny of the Appetite.

[the peddlars in vice and dam’nation who make a profit from it should all hang.]

The ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine producers in India, China, the Czech Republic and Germany should each be held accountable for every gram they produce.

They’re selling the precursors by the ton to meth manufacturers who then import the pure Meth into the USA via Mexico - no doubt with support from Hugo Chavez, Danny Ortega, and Co.

I don’t think so. There are similar reports from a variety of different LEO / Drug rehab sources in Idaho, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Nevada...

Of course, the MSM has rectal-encephalitis and isn’t reporting. Not surprising given that drugs have been always been a favorite weapon of the communists.

I had read most serious tweakers took their heart-attack powder snorted or injected.

The meth flavors are to hide the bitterness of the drug. I didn’t know about chocolate. Strawberry has been around for a couple years. Meth is a terrible drug. The physical decline in the users is astonishing. And it always seems like there are children present. This isn’t an Onion article.

Uh, what? Bitterness? I think meth is snorted like cocaine. There’s no tasting it.

I agree, there is something strange. Meth is a powder that you snort, as far as I know.

I dont understand the popularity, by the way. I’m a dedicated beer drinker. Beer is an amazing drug. Speed, coke, meth...those are concepts that do not make any sense to me at all. Why would anyone want to be awake for 3 days straight? Everything in our world is based on a 24 hour day where things shut down for 8-10 hours each night. That’s when you are supposed to go to sleep.

Methamphetamine is often smoked in a glass pipe. Often a broken lightbulb does the trick: take out the metal base and filament, and heat the crystals therein.

It is also injected and, I believe, snorted.

I do not know whether it is taken orally, I would not be surprised. Most often, here in NZ, it is smoked/inhaled. The crystals are good for up to 10 hits, apparently: merely re-heat and serve.

Methamphetamine often comes in a crystal configuration. Sometimes known as “Pure” (or “P”) or “Crystal” or “Rock”.

Paradoxically, the US is about 2-5 years trailing much of the rest of the world in P-Methamphetamine misuse.

[snorted or injected.]

I’ve seen documentary footage where it was being injected into the jugular.

It’s heartbreaking to see and imagine what the parents of teenage users are going through. It’s hell on earth.

Motivates me mightily to do the absolute best I can in raising my kids.

Trailing eh? Well maybe it is that california influence that says everything must be organic and natural and good for the environment. That means meth is out and coke is in. Pot is natural too.

BTW, I despise drugs except beer and aspirin. Coffee impresses me but I steer clear from it. Same with tobacco. They seem to upset my stomach.

My understanding is that it works on the dopamine systems in the brain. Dopamine is responsible for pleasure.

Problem is meth destroys a significant amount of the brain’s inate ability to produce and utilize dopamine (hence the powerfull adiction) and in so doing makes it impossible to experience normal pleasure without the drug.

The adaptation/damage can occur with a single use. That’s why, as a parent, I am outraged is these predatory animals are manufacturing their poisons to taste like candy.

Back in college one of my football buddies got hold of some “Dr. Rumneys” snuff powder. It’s fine powdered tobacco mixed with various flavorings.

It’s consumed by taking a pinch and snorting it. Believe me, you can taste it. It gets in the mucous at the back of your throat. NAAAAAASTY. But of course, being manly football players, we had to see who could endure the most naaaasty.

Come to think of it, I remember my mom giving me nose drops as a kid. Those tasted nasty too.

Snortable tobacco! I remember that! I tried it a few times many years ago. I don’t think you can get it anymore. Back in the victorian era it was popular. That’s why men carried around fancy handkerchiefs all the time. There is a part of your wrist called the “snuff box”, because that’s where they used to put the snuff and then sniff it up their nose. The snuff that I remember using in highschool came in a small enclosed box with a slide that you pulled out and a little cup on the end measured one “snort” for you. Chewing tobacco is also called snuff. But that is entirely different.

ehem, when I tried Skoal I went into a cold sweat and nearly passed out. Oh yes, that was sooo much fun. Yech.

Stupid kid I was. But, at that age you think you’re going to live forever. I survived my tobacco experimenting without any damage.

Young people today are the same. They think they’re going to live forever too but, the thing is, meth does physiological damage much much quicker. And if you destroy your dopamine receptors, you’re gonna be in a world of hurt. It’s amazing anybody survives it at all.

But now this tactic of making meth candy - targeted at younger kids. That’s just evil.

Wrong....you can DEFINITELY taste it if you snort it. And it is bitter.

Well I guess the war on drugs works.
When I went to high school back in the early 70’s we smoked weed and drank beer.
Nobody I knew used any type of Speed.

I knew all the stoner's.
They rarely used Coke.
I would say that Weed and Mushrooms were the drugs of choice in those days.
