In Swing Districts, Democratic Enthusiasm Is Harder to Come By
Washington Post ^ | September 23, 2007 | Chris Cillizza And Shailagh Murray

Conventional wisdom dictates that Democratic voters are thrilled with their choices for president, bursting at the seams to rally behind Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) or whoever gets the party's nod next year.

A recent survey by Democratic pollster Celinda Lake, however, showed Clinton and Obama trailing former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani (R) in the 31 Democratic-held House districts regarded as most imperiled in 2008, and even potentially serving as a drag on those lawmakers' reelection chances.

[Hillary or B. Hussein Obama] serving as a drag on those lawmakers' reelection chances.

I think Hillary is the best hope for the republican party in 2008.

Ditto. I want sHillary to get it to drive out the broken glass republicans to vote. That way Alan Keyes will be elected and have a mandate.

The last line was humor, but Nomex suit going on anyway. :oP

This article lists the following GOP members of Congress as potential retirees:

Ralph Regula of Ohio, Bill Young of Florida, David Hobson of Ohio, John McHugh of New York, and John Doolittle of California (who has announced he would seek reelection) and Barbara Cubin of Wyoming.

I really would like to see Doolittle and Cubin go. I think that Ralph Regula wanted to pass the district on to his son, a former Stark County Commissioner who was defeated for reelection last year. Only the Bill Young district would be all that difficult to hold.

I may not be a Dummie, but I am in a swing district and I can’t tell you how excited I am about the Communist with fat legs; the black teenager with the big smile and empty head; and, that candidate with the fancy hairdo and raging sexual identity crisis.

Those Dummies sure know how to pick their front runners.

My idiot congresscritter, Patrick Murphy, has already endorsed Obama. I think either he or Hillary will be a tremendous drag on Murphy in this district.

Heh, I just read the yahoo article posted somewhere here that claimed just the opposite - you know, one of those inevitable “trend to the Democrats” articles. The analysis by the writer was awful, full of delusions.

But this one, yes, since Hillary will be their nominee. Just watch the disgust with her grow - the more you see her, the more you hate her.

I guess the Dummies haven’t heard if their leaders are swept into power; they ain’t going along for the ride. I wonder if these guys ever read any history. They would surely know a dictator rules absolutely and when they don’t need you because there will be no freedom left; you are executed or you go to prison or be starved; no matter what party you were affliated with. I wish these people could see this.

The more you hear her cackle - aka, laugh.

Who has the link to that cackle on, I think, the Chrissy Matthews show.

I hope Murphy goes down in flames in 2008.

We need Young and McHugh to stick it out. McHugh’s district is about as Marginal as Young’s.

This article is a bright spot in all the news about the “eminent Democratic blue tidal wave” that is supposed to hit America in 2008.

At first I didn’t want Hillary as the Dem. nominee. Now I am not so sure. Maybe she is the GOP’s best hope of keeping the White House and getting the Senate back. I know that I would crawl over broken glass to vote against her. Less so for Obama or Edwards.

I never thought I’d say this but “Go Hillary Go!”

Murphy has no business being in Congress. He probably would have a rough time managing a McDonalds.

This poll certainly indicates something I find intuitively to be true and which I hope to be true. Nonetheless we have to look deeper.

"Some people say [your Democratic incumbent] is a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton and will support her liberal agenda of big government and higher taxes if she becomes president," the poll stated, before asking respondents whether they would still vote for their incumbent or choose a Republican candidate.

That's a pretty leading and biased question; we'd be furious if the situation were reversed for a Republican.

I just watched her interview on FOX - she is jaw-droppingly terrible. Horrible voice; never answers a question; “mandatory government health insurance isn’t mandatory and it isn’t government health insurance”; “it’s all Bush’s fault that Moveon published that ad against Gen. Petraeus and I’m against the politics of personal destruction which is always a right-wing hack job”; “when I’m President. . . “; and she ended with a witch-like cackle. Is that her laugh? It’s AWFUL. She’s a nightmare, just a nightmare.

I’m not sure what to make of this push poll. Sure Hillary’s negatives are high, but so is the GOP brand name.
