Bollinger Sure Enlightened The Iranians

Iranian Version of Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia:

Despite entire US media objections, negative propagation and hue and cry in recent days over IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's scheduled address at Colombia University, he gave his lecture and answered students questions here on Monday afternoon.

On second day of his entry in New York, and amid standing ovation of the audience that had attended the hall where the Iranian President was to give his lecture as of early hours of the day, Ahmadinejad said that Iran is not going to attack any country in the world.

Before President Ahamadinejad's address, Colombia University Chancellor in a brief address told the audience that they would have the chance to hear Iran's stands as the Iranian President would put them forth.

He said that the Iranians are a peace loving nation, they hate war, and all types of aggression.

Referring to the technological achievements of the Iranian nation in the course of recent years, the president considered them as a sign for the Iranians' resolute will for achieving sustainable development and rapid advancement.

The audience on repeated occasion applauded Ahmadinejad when he touched on international crises.

At the end of his address President Ahmadinejad answered the students' questions on such issues as Israel, Palestine, Iran's nuclear program, the status of women in Iran and a number of other matters.

Via Captain's Quarters:

This is, by the way, their entire report. They never mention Bollinger by name. Nor do the Iranian people ever hear that Bollinger called him a "petty and cruel dictator". What they have heard is that Americans gave him a standing ovation, that they repeatedly applauded his approach to "international crises", and that he participated in a Q&A session.

Iran has conducted a quiet war against the United States ever since November 1979. They have supported Hezbollah when it killed 241 Marines in Lebanon, kidnapped dozens in Beirut and killed some of the hostages, and now supply weapons and training to terrorists in Iraq who kill our soldiers there. Instead of shunning such a man and such a nation, Bollinger let him conduct a propaganda campaign on his campus.

If Bollinger finds alternative points of view so appealing, then I assume that the ROTC will be invited back to Columbia's campus forthwith. After all, Columbia offered an invitation to a man whose nation kills our troops. If the American military can't gain access to engage students for the defense of our nation, then Bollinger and the Columbia administration has made clear which alternatives it finds acceptable, and which they do not.

The truth has a way of getting out. Dictator’s can hold the lid on for only so long, especially in this age of the radio and the internet.

I must admit, I never expected to hear Bollinger call this despot a “petty and cruel dictator”, or take his positions to task. So he gets a few points higher on the “drooling P.C. liberal dolt” scale, but he’s still a drooling P.C. liberal dolt at best.

It was a great opportunity to debate the pros and cons of

America's Left finds no problem with giving foreign dictators equal time. But they are determined to deny to conservatives. These charlatans confuse the First Amendment's free speech guarantee. You may have the right to say what you want but no one has to give you a platform for it. What did we learn about Ahmedinenazi? Nothing. But we learned a great deal about the Left's patriotism yesterday.

And anyone who thought it would be different from that is a fool, including Bollinger.

Re Bollinger: he’s still a drooling P.C. liberal dolt.

You can add sellout if you believe as I do that he did not intend to excoriate the despot until forced to by public outcry.

I'm going to take a much different, probably unpopular stand here at FR: I think it was tacky and cheap. Either DON'T INVITE the dictator, or show him the most basic respect (just introduce him as "pres. of Iran," or whatever), but you CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS---inviting him and giving him a forum, then trying to cover your @ss by a cheapshot intro.

Can you imagine what people here would be saying if someone did that to Pres. Bush? When Ronald Reagan was invited to speak to Moscow State U., they didn't introduce him with a diatribe against the U.S.

The proper course of action was to NOT INVITE him at all.

I still think he only tried to sound tough because of the outcry against the invitation.

“Bollinger Sure Enlightened The Iranians”

As if the Iranians will see even a second of the appearance that made their President look like a deranged idiot dictator. Whet they will see will be so highly edited it will look like he gave a Churchillian speech with endless applause. Sort of like the CBS News coverage.

Why invite someone like that to our prestige campuses? No one has academic freedom in Iran, where universities are purged, censorship is imposed and dissent from faculty and students is ruthlessly crushed. The people of Iran could see with whom the Columbia University's President and faculty stood. Not with them but with the regime. This isn't really about even-handedness. No - tolerance of evil is in reality granting its one's blessing. Lee Bollinger told the world America's intellectual elite stands firmly on the side of the enemies of freedom.

It was a cheap, “cover your butt,” attempt to have it both ways. Either don’t invite him (the right thing to do) or allow him to speak without a diatribe. Ronald Reagan was not introduced with a diatribe at Moscow State U. in the 1980s. It showed how classless, and gutless, libs really are.

Bollinger was a man in a corner so he made the best of his mistake. He will forever be a scumbag to me.

These types of things, like Presidential candidate debates, never stay on point, rather while watching the clock & totally ignoring the moderators questions proceed to filibuster on topics of their own.

Somebody asked me yesterday why not let him speak.

Now we read how the event is being glowingly reported in the middle-east , how monkey-boy took on the big bad USA among sympathetic intellectuals at a major Amercian university.

In the eyes of our enemies the event gave this dangerous lunatic prestige and status.

That’s what I think — he got so much outcry that he had to add a ‘buyer beware’ to his invitation. It’s spit in the wind. Abiminie will use this whole thing for his propaganda purposes, and Bollinger will be part and parcel of that.

Liberal idiot.

Thanks for posting this WBL. The lefties sure gave the Persian pipsqueak some righteous props, no?

It also looks like there may have been some Iranian mischief at play during the broadcast.

From Pajamas Media: Mahmoud's Manhattan Moment.

1) VOA Television nightly services on HotBird and TeleStar 12 satellites were disrupted in Tehran for about 20 minutes, as soon as he was to be introduced at Colombia university’s podium. Iranian citizens did not hear the criticism of Ahmadinejad by Columbia President Bollinger. The way the Islamic Republic does this is to scramble the signals of these satellites locally, using stationary and mobile microwave dishes.

2) It has been rumored from iside Iran that one of the conditions for Iranian-Aermican Haleh Esfandiari’s release from Evin Prison was for Ahmadinejad to give his speech at Colombia University and to visit to Ground Zero. Ahmadinejad’s speech at Colombia was canceled last year.

Before giving this moron any credit please
consider his motivation for what he said to the tyrant.

Had there been no hue and cry from every quarter do you really believe he would have said what he said?

It was cheap. But I am not crying for Achy either. Probably the first time he has been spoken to like that.

OTOH, Bollinger is indeed a weasel who is simply trying to cover his butt after inviting one of the world’s madmen but denying the ROTC because of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.

When in fact Achy doesn’t just ask them to not tell, he executes them.
