Iranian Version of Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia:

Despite entire US media objections, negative propagation and hue and cry in recent days over IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's scheduled address at Colombia University, he gave his lecture and answered students questions here on Monday afternoon.

On second day of his entry in New York, and amid standing ovation of the audience that had attended the hall where the Iranian President was to give his lecture as of early hours of the day, Ahmadinejad said that Iran is not going to attack any country in the world.

Before President Ahamadinejad's address, Colombia University Chancellor in a brief address told the audience that they would have the chance to hear Iran's stands as the Iranian President would put them forth.

He said that the Iranians are a peace loving nation, they hate war, and all types of aggression.

Referring to the technological achievements of the Iranian nation in the course of recent years, the president considered them as a sign for the Iranians' resolute will for achieving sustainable development and rapid advancement.

The audience on repeated occasion applauded Ahmadinejad when he touched on international crises.

At the end of his address President Ahmadinejad answered the students' questions on such issues as Israel, Palestine, Iran's nuclear program, the status of women in Iran and a number of other matters.

Now we have to question if there was a quid-pro-quo for the invitation & release of the Columbia graduate from an Iranian prison.

I'm not giving him much credit. I merely said he did what I didn't expect.

And no, for the record, I don't think he'd have said anything like that if it weren't for the anger by the people.

When they show the video in Iran it will be dubbed like the Hillary speech at the NY Fire Fighters gathering in 2000. All Cheers!

Left’s Patriotism is only extended to the enemies of the USA as demonstrated by Columbia U. and the Moveon Party.

Chris Matthews (grinning) had this to say about the nutjob's homo remarks: "Everyone knows he was saying that they don't have a Provincetown, or anything like that."

Uh-yeah. Imagine what Chris would have been saying had a Republican made such remarks.

I’ve got two questions for Bollinger: What’s the difference between Al Qaeda and Hezbollah? And what’s Bollinger going to do for an encore, invite Bin Laden?

...and if the Columbian graduate in an Iranian prison has close ties to Soros, who was really behind this?

I listened for a few minutes to the call-in show on C-SPAN this morning...four calls in a row that were 100% supportive of Ahmedinejab. How many of those had been pro-Iran and anti-US all along, I don't know.

The other C-SPAN station at the same time was even worse...John Edwards talking about his health care proposals...

you said, "I'm going to take a much different, probably unpopular stand here at FR: I think it was tacky and cheap. Either DON'T INVITE the dictator, or show him the most basic respect (just introduce him as "pres. of Iran," or whatever), but you CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS---inviting him and giving him a forum, then trying to cover your @ss by a cheapshot intro.

And also, "The proper course of action was to NOT INVITE him at all."

I agree wholeheartedly with your statements.

The group the graduate is part of is indeed financed in part by Soros. I forget the groups name but I read it yesterday.

I hope they cut All Federal funding to Columbia U. Any institution that will legitimatize this kind of clown does not deserve public monies.

My thoughts:

Bollinger’s statements were right on, but they will never get played in Iran and the whole thing will be edited to Ima-whackjob’s advantage. The stupid liberals at Columbia University were convenient tools for Iran.

It’s one thing to value “freedom of speech” - but that’s clearly not the case at the University because they don’t treat conservative speech the same.

It was disgusting that this nutjob gets all this attention in our country - he should have been arrested - or at the very least, held hostage for 444 days.

The only bright spot that I can see about the whole thing is that maybe a few more Americans will get to see the stupid liberal students that gave whackjob a standing ovation. One more nail on the radical liberal coffin! After the move-on ad and now this - moderate Americans will be shaking their heads in disgust & disbelief. They may have satisfied their far left base - but I have to believe they alienated a lot of people that are currently riding the fence in the middle.

Just like with Hillary - you give a liberal enough rope - they will hang themselves everytime. I just know there are a lot of attacks on the horizon, holding back right now until the time is right - when Hillary is the dem nominee.

You are right. And it only made the despot sympathetic, especially when he talked about how in Iran guests are treated courteously.

Bollinger should have published that speech as an open letter in the NYT after the visit.

Actually, he should not have invited him in the first place.
