An international treaty under consideration by the Senate would seriously undermine the economic clout the U.S. currently wields at the United Nations.
Approval of the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), a 25-year-old international treaty regulating use of the worlds oceans, is steaming ahead in the Senate, where committee hearings have been scheduled to begin on Sept. 27.
Among other provisions, UNCLOS would levy a tax on members undersea operations, requiring nations to pay up to 7 percent of their sea-mining revenues.

Our country is being sold out on an almost daily basis, by Republicans and Democrats. It’s hard to keep up.
...since the global warming shakedown didn’t work, they are still trying to get into American wallets.
If Bush signs this treaty it will go down as the greatest mistake of his presidency.
I can’t fathom why any republican let alone the Pres is supporting this beast.
Yes, I know. I am surprised Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Mark Levin hasn't caught wind of this issue. IMHO, this treaty is far worse that the Dubai ports deal.
As with the illegal amnesty bill, stopping passage of the LOST bill will require a major effort to contact our senators, since apparently Bush favors it as well as the Democrats. So we can’t count on his opposition or veto.
So basically a foreign body wants to levy taxes on a sovereign nation? If this passes say goodbye to the rest of the Constitution.
HIGHER GAS PRICES EXPECTED DUE TO TREATY;
Federal government seeks to give seven percent of revenues to the UN from offshore development.
GULF GAS PRICES EXPECTED TO SOAR
A treaty under consideration in the US Senate will levy a seven percent tax on revenues from offshore drilling - not for the US government, but to give to the United Nations.
As I’ve said before........keep American’s broke by taxing them and you have control of them. The control of any society is in the money. He who has control, has the money. Governments don’t like it when individuals have too much money....you have the means to fight their policys.
Guess with Klintoon out of office, there's no more skimming the 'oil for food program' in Iraq and Coughing Anus and his son must have run through their pillages already.
Socialist thieves get really mad when they simply cannot steal the money of others so they can continue their bogus jobs and lavish lifestyles.
Heck, the US has supplied 75% of their budget in the past and they want to tax us?
It has always been the goal of the UN to be “self funding”.
Right now, they’re supported indirectly be member-nation contributions, with the US leading the pack by a huge margin.
They want the ability to levy and collect taxed DIRECTLY from industry, without the need for local/national government enforcement.
UN tax collectors in our future?
Once, this was considered to be Treason. Now, it occurs daily and is accepted. The fact that our leaders have no fear of being held accountable for such actions leads them to commit even more. It also shows that they know what we are just learning - there is a higher accountability for them than the US. It is as if the country has already been dissolved, and their allegiance is to another entity.
What jurisdiction does the UNCLOS have to TAX Americans/the US? Did our government constitutionally approve such a treaty that would allow this violation of US Sovereignty?
Too much could be and might be. Most of the rhetoric is scare talk. $billions don’t scare anybody anymore. Talk $trillions or hang up the spurs.
The President, the Senate and the House of Representatives could really care less about you.
So where are the “candidates” on this? How about it Fred? What do you think Rudy? Mitt? Anyone? Anyone?
exactly
our candidates remain silent even with stuff being handed to them on a silver platter....Imadinnerjacket's visit, hillarycare,Syria with a few more holes,it's really mind bending
Bush needs to veto this. I doubt he will though. He loves anything globalist.
I think most of the candidates are right where the big money tells them to be. Some are publicly in favor, some are "laying low" hoping to avoid the public scrutiny. I am not sure about he Fred. He sounds OK, but so did GWB at one point, before his Royal leanings became public. I suspect Duncan Hunter is the most American of the bunch, but he doesn't have much funding - wonder why (/sarcasm).
