Hugo Chavez Targeted at Su-35
Venezuela could be the first buyer of Su-35 fighter, ITAR-TASS reported with reference to Sergey Chemezov, chief of Russias state weapons exporter Rosoboronexport.
Chemezov said they held special presentation for Venezuelas President Hugo Chavez and the military and president of Venezuela admired the jet.
Venezuela is buying Russias Su-30MK2; the consignment includes 24 jets. Rosoboronexport plans to set to detailed talks about Su-35 deliveries once the supplies of Su-30MK2 are completed.
One-seat heavy multi-purpose Su-35 could be viewed as direct evolution of Su-27, differing from it in the variable thrust vector, new radioelectronic devices and weapons. Its western analogue is the U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet.

Ah! Target practice!
;)
I would not be so quick to under-rate Russian technology.
They would have a hard time with the F-22, but we do not have air-force bases in South America. Just carriers, and the F-18s.
These jets are capable of long range carrier strike missions. Fitted with naval attack cruise missles, we would have a quite a fight on our hands untill they were all shot down.
But luckily, they do not have many very jets and probably will not have well trained pilots that can really utilize them well for some time.
Yup you made a good point. No doubt the Russians can produce high tech fighters to keep pace with us...but our pilots are probably the best trained in the world.
Unless there is alot we do not know, the assumption that russian technology such as this fighter is in any form a technological equal or superior to us is just basically wrong.
Do they get Ruskki pilots to fly them? (SHades of the PDRK support in the Koran conflict)
I have worked with Russian Technology and in my opinion your assertion is wrong.
Heck, they will sell these things to any “John” who has money...why don’t we buy a few to see what they look like?
It’s cheaper to offer $10 million to anyone who wants to fly to the US in one.

We do have the use of the airfield at Curacao....which is the longest tarmac in the Carribean. Our F-16’s fly out of there on a pretty regular basis. Also Curacao has a deep water port. I see subs cruising in when I’m suckin’ down rum punches in Williamstead.
Curacao is 45 miles from Venezuela.....a few seconds away with the afterburners on.
Interestingly enough...I think Venezuela uses the refinery at Curacao for it’s oil.
Do you think the pilots in Chavez’s “airforce” will ever be competent?
The problem with the SU-35 is it’s single pilot. They would be better off buying the SU-30 with technology taken from the SU-35.
I believer that their F-16 pilots did recieve training in the US till a few years ago-they cannot be dismissed outright as incompetent.
That thing looks like it’d have the radar cross section of Idaho.
LOL...good point!
You are right Venezuela also ships crude to the refinery in St. Croix and they get refined goods in return. The last time I looked St. Croix was part of the US.
~grin~
I have worked against Russian Technology and in my opinion your opinion is wrong.
You are mistaken.
I am not sure what tech sector you are in but my experience is in the aerospace field.
But, I guess two people can see the same thing and still see something different.
