Aftermath of Food Fight Triggers Protest at High SchoolStudents Joined By Parents, Civil Rights Activists By Subha Ravindhran

PALMDALE, Sept. 28, 2007 (KABC-TV) - The aftermath of a food fight triggered a big protest Friday morning at Knight High School in Palmdale.

Dozens of parents, students and civil rights activists gathered in front William P. Knight High School in Palmdale Friday morning to send the message. The message: Stop the security guard violence.

"We are seeing a trend of black students being victimized and today, we say enough is enough, enough is enough," says Najee Ali, Project Islamic Hope.

The incident was caught on tape by a student with his cell phone camera. It shows 16-year-old Pleajhia Mervin being held down by a security guard. The school says it all started when students began throwing pieces of a birthday cake around the lunch room.

Mervin says the guard attacked her when she did not pick up pieces of the cake that fell on the floor.

"I just turned around to walk to class and he grabbed me from behind. He put my arms behind my back and pulled it up until it hurted. He then slammed me on the table," says Mervin.

In the end three students, including the 14-year-old filming the scene and Mervin's own mother were all arrested.

On Friday morning parents came out to say that this has happened before at the school.

Teresa Augustine claims a few years ago her own daughter was also victimized by the school security guards and arrested.

This is an article about a culture clash between the working class tax-payers clashing with the gang culture that is moving into a small town up from Los Angeles. Gangs are moving into government housing and bringing their gang culture into small towns. Working class people clash with gang culture.

Victims, victims and more victims. It’s amazing how much trouble kids get into just “doing nothing”.

Seems to me they ought to be celebrating diversity. Isn’t it wonderful?

I live in this town where this incident took place. I know the security guard. He is a decent young man who was working the gang detail. The gang culture has been moving into Palmdale for the last 15 years, thanks to the government assisted housing program that allows people who do not work to move into decent neighborhoods where gangs have not traditionally been a problem. This is a problem that is spreading nation wide, thanks in large part to the Clinton Administration who encouraged the move from the ghettoes into nice neighborhoods by trying to get people out of the ghettoes. All they suceeded in doing is causing the gang problem to become a natiowide problem instead of an inner-city problem. Thanks Hillary Clinton, you and your husband have done your jobs well!

ABC News is promoting a slanted story. They did not report that the girl in question was going wild and that she slapped a female security guard in the face prior to the male security guard restraining the girl. The children, being totally out of control, used their cell phones to call the mother, who apparently had nothing better to do all day then to rush to the school to assault the school principal. It must be nice when one can live in a government assisted home and have the time to run to school to knock over the Principal when you don’t have to be worrying about a thing like paying BILLS!!!

I don’t know if it is new or renamed, but I went to Palmdale High back in the 60’s. It was a pretty nice place back then. I bought a truck from the only security person in the whole school and he wore a business suit, not a uniform.

“Pleajhia”?!

What IS it with those meaningless names? What ever happened to “Betty”, or “Wendy”, or “Jennifer”? The degradation of our culture continues....

It’s not Palmdale High School, I went there too, Knight High School is a new school. Palmdale is actually still pretty nice. My daughter just graduated from Knight High School last year.

I looked at the video on the other thread, and questioned whether the girl really had a broken arm. I don’t see anything about a broken arm in this story.

Here’s a link to the thread full of the girl’s defenders:

Just because the security guard was white does not mean he is racist. I know this security guard, he is not racist. But because of all the media attention, he will be real lucky if he ever gets to become a police officer. The girl slapped a female security guard, the security guard had every right to restrain the girl, this is what they are hired to do. In addition, the kids had their cell phones at school and were basically using them as a weapon to call big mamma bear to protect her cubs.

“This is a problem that is spreading nation wide”

I live north of Lancaster(which is north of palmdale)in the Mohave desert in Cantil(Spanish for rattle snake)about 18 miles from California city.

California city is a small city.

Recently, gangs and their gang “culture” (carried mostly by young blacks coming from Lancaster)have begin to seep into this nice little city, causing certain problems.

California city has many established blacks that are well integrated into the city.

The problem is the gang culture that is metastasizing from the big cities — care of the gangs.

Coming to a city near you!
