Web sites for teen mothers

Posted on 09/29/2007 6:22:27 PM PDT by reaganaut1

On the Usenet group misc.kids a high school senior said she was pregnant and asked for advice, and someone mentioned two sites that look like garbage to me.

Can someone recommend a site that provides useful information to pregnant young women, for example discussing prenatal care and the possibility of adoption?

This place is in Maryland, but has good advice. They also belong to a network that has branches in many places.

Regardless of her faith, there is probably some information about adoption (and assistance) on some Catholic charity websites of some sort.

As to prenatal care, I don’t have any suggestions. Planned Parenthood and their ilk have infested many well sounding organizations.

As with anything in this world (especially medical concerns), you can start with the internet but eventually you (or she) will need to get actual face time with someone.

I would call Focus on the Family - tell them where the teen is, and ask for local resources.

Bethany would be a good place to start; Edna Gladney (Fort Worth) has a national reputation; Buckner; Most large Southern Baptist churches either support a life ministry or could direct you to one; many, but not all, Catholic churches support life ministries; Depending on your location a medium to large PCA church could help.

Google for ‘pregnancy resource centers’ or ‘crisis pregnancy’ and throw in the city / state name.

There are lots of them, they are community supported charities that offer tons of services to women, most of which are free.

The carenet site has a 24/7 800 hotline. see: http://www.care-net.org/

The Care Net organization has pregnancy counselling centers in many cities, pro-life in orientation, non-judgemental, non-accusing, seeking to help in every sense, spiritually, morally, materially, you name it.

Your pastor is a good place to start, or the local Catholic church or another pro life church that has these service. Catholics, Lutherans and LDS usually take care of people from other faiths... And your family doc often has a place to give advice. We diagnose pregnant teens all the time, and often are the ones who break it to the family.

If you don't know a good prolife Family doc or OB/Gyn, ask one of your friends or relatives who is a nurse.

Planned Parenthood will often "counsel" which means telling why it's okay to abort...and many secular social service workers are lesbian and/or pro abort feminists... some Planned Parenthood are actually good with the girls, as are some social workers, of course.

Priests for life have a list of resources HERE

And a word of caution: many of the girls change their mind and want to keep the baby...so be prepared to care for a grandkid until the mom is old enough to be on her own...As a mom with two adopted kids, I support adoption, but when mom sees the little kid, they fall in love and want to take it home...

That's why I raised my grandchild for two years, until mom got thru two years of college and married (but not, alas, my son/the father, so now I rarely see her).

Thank you. Yes, a great many decide to let their baby go on living, and keep it, or allow it to be adopted, especially after viewing its ultrasound image.

Being a 29-year member of Lutherans for Life, I am thankful for whatever advances have been achieved in securing protection for the lives of the weakest and most helpless of our kind.
