Many awakenings (Ron Paul is as surprised as anyone at the near messianic zeal he inspires)
Concord Monitor ^ | September 30, 2007 | By SARAH LIEBOWITZ

Ron Paul doesn't understand his own success. He didn't know his calls for an end to the Federal Reserve and the Department of Education would draw cheers, that his anti-income tax, anti-foreign intervention and libertarian message would resonate. He was reluctant to run for the Republican presidential nomination, he said yesterday: He was convinced it would take another "generation for education" before his message - rooted in Paul's reading of the Constitution - gained traction.

"I have been just dumbfounded about what's happening," Paul said yesterday in Manchester's Veteran's Park, where roughly 500 supporters gathered for a glimpse of the presidential candidate. "I've been talking this way for 30 years. But something, something special is happening."

I thought I knew what 'success' meant.

Wait while I go look up the definition again as someone must have changed it while I was sleeping.

“As a lawmaker, he’s chosen not to participate in the congressional pension program.”
When given a choice between socialism quick and socialism slightly slower anyone who proposes we go back to following the constitution will resonate with Americans. One would wish that all our lawmakers would eschew the pension largess.

A Ron Paul presidency would be a complete disaster, based upon his stated positions.

Apparently, his point of view is located somewhere in the late 1800’s, before the creation of the Federal Reserve and the events of the 20th century.

Regarding the whole Federal reserve and the fiat money situation. It is really simpler than people realize. Our whole 21st century society is an artifact, a construction of men’s minds. Without the monetary system in place today, 21st century society would be impossible, and life would be intolerable for the vast majority of people - the only direct beneficiary to the elimination of the Federal Reserve and fiat money would be 9th century Islam - that is one of their stated goals.

Ron Paul does not understand the threat caused by a political philosophy that desires to destroy the artifact of modern society - think not? Check out his position on fighting radical Islam. He seems to think that radical Islam was created by US. It has been around for a thousand years, but he has just discovered it, and it is apparently OUR fault.

That point alone disqualifies him as a serious candidate.

In fact, his complete misunderstanding of the international situation and the world we must live in today is enough to disqualify him as a danger to our own country. He should not even be a Congressman with the lack of understanding of the real world we live in that he displays.

The part that should concern all is that his supporters know even less about the world and our society than he does - they claim he makes sense.

He is good for comic relief, though.

So, “success” is now defined as attracting the looniest of the lefties and righties to internet polls?

Ron Paul and “success” are oxymorons.

95 % Ron Paul's message is strict constitutional conservatism, which I agree with wholeheartedly

I fail to understand why he thinks Islamic terrorism is the point he diverges into la la land.

I forget who said it, but the Constitution isn't a suicide pact.

As POTUS candidate his plan to address terrorism is utter nonsense, so the man is a non starter.

He (Ron Paul) was reluctant to run for the Republican presidential nomination, he said yesterday...

Though nowhere near as reluctant as I and a plethora of others are to vote for him or even support him for the nomination.

The man is a barking moonbat, he acts like that other moonbat, Kucinich.

I thought I'd never say this, but, well, I'm almost to the point that I'd vote for Hillary rather than him.

......chirrup, chirrup.....

Nah, I'd never get that desperate, but the man is a damn fool and even worse, he's a dangerous damn fool.

He'll get a few so-called conservatives to cast their support for him.

More's the pity.

Agreed. See tagline.

What really disappoints me about Paul is that his campaign has intentionally made his anti-war stand the most visible part. They’ve made a conscious decision to go after the Code Pinkos and their ilk instead of playing up his small-government positions, which would resonate better with the Republican/conservative/libertarian base. It’s like there’s somebody there—maybe Paul himself—who said, “nah, forget all the ‘Dr. No’ stuff that’ll fire up the base. Let’s get the kook Justin Raimondo vote instead!”

Actually, the reference is more directed at RP's followers. His acolytes. That should have been obvious.

If you take out his anti-foreign intervention message I can see his appeal. Unfortunately we can’t afford that message now. Libertarians are 75% correct. Its the 25% that is wrong that makes them unelectable.

Fox had a story a week or so back that said getting out of the UN drew huge positives where other issues didn’t move voters.

I forget who said it, but the Constitution isn't a suicide pact.

Justice Robert H. Jackson wrote it, if this source is to be believed.

There is so much of the Libertarian platform that appeals to me. However, I prize pragmatism, as it relates to our survival, above all other considerations when evaluating political parties and candidates. Dr. Paul is obviously entitled to stir the debate, but I hope that Hillary will not be the immediate consequence of the pursuit of perfection that seems to entrance the Paul supporters.

To attend a Ron Paul event is to see where some disaffected Democrats and Republicans have turned....opponents of the North American Free Trade Agreement and proponents of tougher border security.

Do they know Ron Paul earmarked at least $13Million to the NAU/NAFTA Superhighway and he voted against putting the military on the border at least four times?

Even Ron Paul knows he can't win. We can't post Detroit Free Press articles as threads, but you'll get a kick out of this.

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070930/COL32/709300546/1070/OPINION02

Ron Paul admits he doesn't know where his campaign for president is going.

Not the White House, that's for sure, but Paul has been surprised by the size of the crowds he's drawing and the money he's raising, so he figures to stick with it a while longer, including through the Jan. 15 Michigan primary.

Fine Patriot? In the eyes of a few lost souls only. Fine Patriot words are similar to ones the left uses the prop up their morons. Ron Paul and his minions are alienating the largest voting bloc Ron Paul needs to retain his seat in Congress, Republicans. Republicans in his district are seeing the true man finally and they do not like what they see. Libetards and the democrats will not be able to save his worthless arse from being kicked out of Congress just like Cynthia McKinney was. Ron Paul is our Cynthia McKinney in the GOP, a complete embarrassment.
