Catholic Pro-Abortion Ontario Premier Confronted at Campaign Debate by Pro-Life Candidate

Pro-life singer David MacDonald runs against Premier Dalton McGuinty in Ottawa South

OTTAWA, September 28, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In Ottawa South, Liberal Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's riding, well-known pro-life singer David MacDonald is running for the Family Coalition Party. MacDonald has posted numerous signs and delivered over 10,000 pro-life and pro-family flyers in the riding.

In a moving and dynamic presentation at an all candidates debate Wednesday - with Premier Dalton McGuinty looking on - MacDonald spoke of his experiences as a Broadway star which was cut short due to the disastrous fallout of an abortion he consented to with his girlfriend.  MacDonald explained that thousands of couples must wait for years and travel around the world to adopt a baby while Ontario spends $32 million tax dollars to abort over 40,000 babies annually.

At an event sponsored by the Canadian Hearing society, Canadian Paraplegic Society and the Canadian National Institute for the blind on September 25, David spoke about the prenatal screening program and abortion referrals of babies with Down Syndrome. He pointed out that 80% of babies screened with Down Syndrome are aborted for no other purpose than that they have a disability, a form of eugenics condemned by the Council of Canadians with Disabilities.

To cheers from the audience of disabled rights activists MacDonald asked, "How can we condemn the selective abortion of girls in China, while we practice selective abortion here in Ontario?"

At the all candidates meeting, David directly confronted McGuinty on abortion. "Yesterday you promised to shorten wait times for abortion, which means less money for needed services. If abortion is a 'choice' then it is elective surgery. How can you justify that while cancer patients wait 8 months for necessary treatment?," asked MacDonald.

Premier McGuinty replied "I believe a woman has a right to choose."

An hour later at a hospital a patient made front page news when he refused to shake Dalton's hand saying "I have cancer and you're not helping any."
