Thompson says no to Net taxes, slams SCHIP bill
The Nashville Business Journal ^ | September 28, 2007 | Jim Stinson

Fred Thompson says the Internet should get another pass on access taxes.

On Thursday, the Nashville attorney, former U.S. senator from Tennessee and candidate for president stopped by Cool Springs to talk to the press as he raised money in Middle Tennessee.

Thompson, a Republican, told the Business Journal the Internet's taxation exemption should again be extended.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., is pushing a compromise bill which would allow some taxation of bundled services such as phone and television service through the Net.

The bill could also extend the general tax moratorium for another four years, but introduce some taxation.

Thompson then slammed the law being proposed by U.S. House Democrats which would expand health care for children.

The State Children's Health Insurance Program legislation would expand health care coverage for children, but Thompson said the bill, passed 265-159 on Tuesday, was an attempt at "Hillary-care by another name."

"It's gotten totally out of whack," said Thompson.

Thompson said the SCHIP bill would go far beyond covering poor children and cover those who did not need government-run insurance.

Rich Galen, a campaign aide to Thompson, later told the Business Journal that Thompson has never talked to Rudy Guiliani, former New York City mayor, to discuss any issues, including a possible vice-presidential role for either GOP candidate.

Thompson will join other GOP candidates for president to debate Oct. 9 in Michigan.

IIRC, Senator Thompson has already disavowed any interest in being a vice presidential nominee, plus you can't be both president and vice-president at the same time!

You’d think with all those trillions of dollars worth of taxes we already pay, they wouldn’t need any more. I mean, when are all these govt. programs created for the “good of the people” going to start kicking in and working?

(Yes, that was sarcasm).

Senator Fred Thompson is the only major candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.

I know many, many Republicans that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as Conservatives, and never will. Mitt Romney is a RINO (though a very nice man) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. “I guess I’ll just try to buy the presidency”. Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our Country. Nice picture huh?

However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this Country and strength back to our party. A little of the good old days of faith and family would do well for this Country. If a Conservative runs as a Conservative, he will win!

Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a party, as a Country, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is? It is not impossible to take back the House and the Senate. We are winning in Iraq—they know it. The best they can do now is stop our progress and choose defeat, just like they did during Vietnam. We lost because Congress chose defeat. History repeats itself when not learned from.

Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our Country right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this party and nation back together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart as a party. Liberal is liberal every day of the week.

Really tick off the leftist democrats and contribute to Fred Thompson: https://www.fred08.com/contribute.aspx?RefererID=c637caaa-315c-4b4c-9967-08d864cd0791

Two things about this article that I noticed.

1. The bill could also extend the general tax moratorium for another four years, but introduce some taxation.

In other words, the creep is in. Start little and once you get a foothold, there’s not stopping it.

2. Thompson, a Republican, told the Business Journal the Internet’s taxation exemption should again be extended.

While I love Fred and intend to vote for him big time, the word “extended” should be replaced with a permanent ban. Force another congress to lift the ban instead of allowing an extension to expire. This puts them on record and we know how they hate that.

Freedom in America is under assault. It’s coming from every leftist in the political spectrum. Unless stopped, Ben Franklin’s prediction will come true, and the Republic will be no more.

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. — Benjamin Franklin

Not veto proof. The dems are 25 votes short to override.

He makes decisions based on principles.

Fred calls himself a federalist. We all kinda know what that means. But to give a picture of the origin of the word, you have to go back to when the original 7 articles of the Constitution was being voted on. Those in favor of the Constitution were called federalists, those opposed were called anti federalists.

Since 1913 when the Federal Reserve we have not had freedom like we did before it. Andrew Jackson and Thomas Jefferson were strongly opposed to a “national bank.” They said that ‘ who controls the money, controls the country.” The federal reserve caused the 1929 crash and those in charge of it got insider info which allowed them to become the power brokers who elected FDR.

Why is it Fred Thompson voted against extending the moratorium on Internet Taxes when he had the chance to do so?

In 1998 Thompson voted against extending the Internet tax moratorium for 4 years. (S. 442, CQ Vote #305: Rejected 45-52: R 32-22; D 13-30, 10/07/98, Thompson Voted Nay) and in 2001, Thompson voted against extending the Internet tax moratorium through Dec. 31, 2005.. (H.R. 1552, CQ Vote #341: Motion Agreed To 57-43: R 35-14; D 22-28; I 0-1, 11/15/01, Thompson Voted Yea).

In 2001, Thompson voted against making the Internet tax moratorium permanent.. (H.R. 1836, CQ Vote #128: Motion Rejected 11-88: R 9-40; D 2-48, 5/21/01, Thompson Voted Nay)
