Democrats go after Limbaugh
The Hill ^ | October 01, 2007 | Klaus Marre

Posted on 10/01/2007 1:29:57 PM PDT by vietvet67

Democrats on Monday called on the chief executive of Clear Channel Communications to denounce remarks by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, whom they say made a “hateful” and “unpatriotic” attack on U.S. troops opposed to the war in Iraq.

At issue is a remark from Limbaugh that characterized such troops as “phony soldiers.” Democrats have seized on the issue, allowing them to hit back at Republicans who similarly latched onto a MoveOn.org ad that referred to Gen. David Petraeus as “General Betray Us.”

“Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said in his letter to Clear Channel Chief Executive Mark Mays. “We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a ‘phony soldier.’ We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.”

Harkin was stupid to say what he did. Michelle Malkin has the info on Harkin up at her website -— he lied about being a Vietnam combat pilot and was caught and had to retract!!

You can't blame the Democrats for wanting to silence Rush. Nothing smarts like an unwelcome truth, and every day Rush makes observations that really must sting the Democrats.

Rush kinda brings Harry Truman to mind:

“I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell."
Harry S. Truman

And this reminds us of the day--oh, it seems so long ago--when the Democrat Party was respectable, and good, decent people were Democrat leaders--Harry Truman, for example.

Why does Harry Reid (Senate Leader) and other Senators have the time to listen to Talk Radio while the country is at war? Who’s running the country while these nitwits listen to Rush?

This Video by ABC should be sent to Rush, but more importantly to each democrat and Republican in the House and the Senate. Dingy Harry deserves to be publically humiliated on the Floor of the Senate for his Outright LIES!

What a dope Reid is. If you want to go jump in the ring with someone who’s skills are so much better than yours be prepared for an ass whooping. It’s almost like Reid hasn’t been in the news lately so he’s got to pull a Britney and show his nether parts. Of course the MSM will be all over this but the blowback is going to singe Reid's hair. How about a Phoney Senator T-shirt with Harry’s picture Rush?

Haven’t found a transcript yet.

Just want an exact quote of the line, plus context, in question.
Harry Reid is only repeating two words, which alone sound bad but in context are probably perfectly sensible.
Rather than babbling on in generalities, the exact quote needs to be loudly proclaimed so people can hear what was actually said - and see for themselves it wasn’t bad (unless, of course, it was - which should be easy to prove either way).

Rush has a link to Brian Maloney's post on his blog where he explains this.

Radio Equalizer: ABC's 'Phony Vets': Same Language, Context As Rush (from RushLimbaugh.com).

It's a shame Rush has to respond at all. This has to be one of the most petty and pathetic things the US Senate has ever taken up. It's like the institution is being run by a bunch of 5-year olds. Unfortunately for me I have to live in a state with both Durbin and Obama as it's Senators.
