Bush Engagement Unites Two Political Clans
CBS with the Washington Post ^ | October 2, 2007 | Libby Copeland

The nation's first family tree is about to gain a new branch. The future in-laws, it turns out, are not unlike the Bushes.

Henry Hager, 29, who was engaged to Jenna Bush, 25, in August, hails from a world of good breeding and foregone conclusions. His parents, who live in the West End of Richmond, are staples of their society. Like the Bushes, with their prominent forebears and their best schools, the Hagers are a Good Family, in the old sense of the phrase.

So much about the Hager family reminds you of how things used to be.

Wow did you read the comments on WaPo after the article. The Dems really are miserable.

That was actually a good, informative article! They make a cute couple, and I wish them much happiness! Would love for them to have a WH wedding.

I know I’m amazed too. I kept reading waiting for the zinger. I can’t wait until they write the story about a Clinton engagement, can you imagine the contortions they will have to go through to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

It is a nice article...but OH MY, Henry’s Mother’s father, brothers and sister[maybe] committed suicide....wow...what’s in her genes! That’s a little scary...

Instead of poking a sharp stick into my eye, I like to read the comments sometimes and picture nerd losers in mommy and daddy’s basement, at the computer, chuckling to themselves as they gnaw on cold pizza and post nasty comments to on-line articles.

Social anthropologists say that in matters of love, like meets like

Something to that:

Amy Carter met her match, a pony tailed hippy-type - she kept her maiden name when they married. (Wonder if he asked daddy's permission for her hand.)

Amy often participated in scum bag demonstrations - even getting herself arrested while demonstrating with Abbie Hoffman - yep, like to like.

Amy went to Brown University where, according to Wikipedia "Amy left Brown due to unrelated and unpublicized issues."

I remember a photo of her and her hubby, looking like 'white Southern trash' sitting on the stoop of their then apartment in the slums...

She did go on to get a Masters, I believe in art. She illustrated a children's book written by her father, Jimmah himself, titled: The Little Baby Snoogle-Fleejer (available on line.)

But there has been a real blackout on all things Amy in the media for many years. That, in itself, is interesting.

I'm glad the press is being decent with Jenna. I think they know the public wouldn't stand for her engagement and upcoming wedding to be trashed. They're beginning to realize that the public if fed up with them and will fight back...

It will be interesting to see if the wedding is at the WH or Crawford or maybe Kennebunkport. (I'm betting Kennebunkport)

The majority of the comments after the article reveal a lot of vicious, hateful ignorance, class-envy and stupidity. I’m sure these posters do not come from “a good family”.

I wish Jenna and Henry much luck and happiness. I also completely understand their decision to remove themselves from the political spotlight and try to live a “normal” life. I can’t even imagine what they’ve had to deal with from “the public” up till now in their young lives.

IMHO, you have to have an incredibly thick skin and be supremely selfless to even consider entering the political arena in this day and age. At least that’s the criteria for good people - the rest are power hungry egomaniacs and/or crooks, but that’s another story.
