Thompson Cancels Date With the Press
The Caucus (NYT Blog) ^ | October 5, 2007 | Jim Rutenberg

Posted on 10/05/2007 11:16:43 PM PDT by Plutarch

Fred Thompson, appearing at the Americans for Prosperity event today, was supposed to give a press availability, which would have been his first big question-and-answer session with the national press corps in Washington. The availability never happened, and the campaign’s description for why has a decidedly, anti-Washington press corps bent – which probably won’t hurt him too much with key constituencies. (That is, outside the one with all those barrels of ink, television viewers and Web readers.)

Todd Harris, a campaign spokesman, said Mr. Thompson’s speaking engagement ran later than expected and “it came to a decision between doing a media availability or spending time with the Virginia delegation,’’ adding, “We opted to spend time with the delegates as opposed to the Washington press corps.”

For good measure, Mr. Harris added, “It’s not all about the D.C. press corps.” Though, he added, Mr. Thompson – whose performance on the stump has come under withering criticism that continued through his appearance at the Americans for Prosperity event – has held plenty of press availabilities out on the road.

“Regardless FDT’s campaign is not inspiring confidence.”

First of all can I have a round of applause?

Wow--that's just damning. The fact that you're small-minded enough to bother posting such tripe that can be found on of the candidates. Zero.

BTW, your ridiculous post with the long link has ruined the appearance of this thread. Way to go!

“I don’t think the married is to the opposite sex.”

Well that would tend to put a crimp in the whole “gay” thing now wouldn’t it?

you are the one who said “entitled”

We are talking about elected officials. People who put forth that their character is worthy of our vote.

This is no different than asking who are Guiliani’s staffers. Who are Romney’s staffers?

Voting for someone because they are “not hillary” in the primary is not enough.

We have three candidates who are asking for our votes. They have to give us cause to vote FOR them.

And YOU chose to interpret it out of context-- a dishonest thing to do. But, hey, whatever works, right? You're as dishonest as some of the politicians we have to put up with.

Must be nice having a candidate that is doing so poorly that you can sit on the sidelines and throw garbage at REAL campaigns for normal, everyday, activity

Heh. :)

Orrrr Thompson’s openly homosexual press secretary ...

But is he a closet socialist/communist like candidates Rudy Toot, Romney and McCain?

To: Clara Lou; pissant
If I didn't know better, I'd believe that you are Pissant's other FR identity.

Back in the day, when Hunter was more in vogue than now, Pissant and I had a quite a few exchanges over the merits of Duncan Hunter. Pissant, however, would make substantial posts ably defending DH (and faulting Romney) rather than just chiding me personally.

You two post the same kind of anti-FRed garbage with the same kind of comments.

I am sorry to see that you consider the pieces I (and Pissant) have posted garbage. Are all news articles that might reflect negatively on Fred automatically garbage in your view, or are some potentially legitimate? I can't imagine any such article from any source that I could post that you wouldn't consider garbage, and thus in your view FR should be a Fred la la land in which nothing negative is ever posted. While we are at it, why even bother with the all this primary process foolishness? FDT should just be offered the nomination now, no questions asked.

BTW, Plutarch, are you have NYT stock?

Regrettably, some of the news articles I've posted are from the NYT. There are probably only a handful of national reporters following FDT's campaign, and these will be from the likes of the NYT and Washington Post. Thus, the first person reporting which is most the most specific, and thus credible and telling will necessarily be from a notorious liberal source. I've posted articles from alternative sources, such as Politico, and Wall Street Journal, and it is my impression that Fredheads are no less dismissive of the source. Is there a news source that you would consider legitimate, save for BlogsforFred? Let me know, and I will look for articles from a source more to your liking.

This is not one of your best ideas to post. Hillary with a Q&A? Even if she shows up she doesn’t answer questions. I’ve never seen a press event where she did answer questions. She dodges, weaves, flip flops in the worst sense, and doesn’t remember. Remember Rush’s song where her mind was jello and she couldn’t remember anything.

Fred has done more with the press in one month than Hillary has since 1990.

If you can, check with FRED’s wife or ex-wife about his “tendencies”.....The people around you do not walk in your shoes and “VICE” versa. As other Freepers have mentioned, maybe you spend too much time looking at the wrong part of a human being..Try looking at a person’s soul and deeds.
