Thompson Cancels Date With the Press
The Caucus (NYT Blog) ^ | October 5, 2007 | Jim Rutenberg

Posted on 10/05/2007 11:16:43 PM PDT by Plutarch

Fred Thompson, appearing at the Americans for Prosperity event today, was supposed to give a press availability, which would have been his first big question-and-answer session with the national press corps in Washington. The availability never happened, and the campaign’s description for why has a decidedly, anti-Washington press corps bent – which probably won’t hurt him too much with key constituencies. (That is, outside the one with all those barrels of ink, television viewers and Web readers.)

Todd Harris, a campaign spokesman, said Mr. Thompson’s speaking engagement ran later than expected and “it came to a decision between doing a media availability or spending time with the Virginia delegation,’’ adding, “We opted to spend time with the delegates as opposed to the Washington press corps.”

For good measure, Mr. Harris added, “It’s not all about the D.C. press corps.” Though, he added, Mr. Thompson – whose performance on the stump has come under withering criticism that continued through his appearance at the Americans for Prosperity event – has held plenty of press availabilities out on the road.

Here is Fred in a debate some years ago;

Sorry. I guess it doesn’t work anymore. He was debating with Jim Cooper and lost his cool bigtime.

You say so, but you don't have the video.

The depth of my ambivalence beggars the language.

So too does the wretchedness of your prose.

Fred blasted Cooper, but only after Cooper had been making an ass out of himself, as is the Dem way. Of course Paperdoll would leave that part out.

Sad they use a Dem to make a point...

I’ve posted it often enough in the past when it worked. Don’t pretend you haven’t watched it.

He is not saturating the market all at once, but trying to feed the grassroots first to continue the bottom up momentum, he then reinforces that energy when he starts with the heavy Fred guns, at the top.

I love that you said all you did ! Stop and think, people, we have over a year to go ! I want Fred to do what he is doing ! When the top guns are shooting off their mouth with promises and slandering each other already.. they are starting to cancel each other out along with themselves IMO.

I would love to see them go at each other strong on one of these lame debates, and have STATELY MR. THOMPSON, bide his time and then speak with a PROFOUND COMMON SENSE ANSWER, that takes everyone aback and they erupt in APPLAUSE ! I am patiently waiting for that. And it is going to happen !

I think it's great when he tells Cooper to shut up.

Imagine Fred doing it to Hillary! For now, Penn will have to suffice:

Yup. I couldn't help but notice all your quality posts. Being on a thread in which Petronski is in his form is like having a serious debate in a room alongside a dung throwing monkey.

No doubt your response to this post will provide a further example of what I speak.

I’m sure the Fred heads will call O’Reilly a commie symp cross dressing Rudy butt boy.

No, that title goes to Hannity the Giuliani fluffer.

Well, if all you Romney monkeys would stop throwing dung, Petronski wouldn’t have to be ‘in his form’.
