Abbas: No independent Palestinian state without Jerusalem as capital

The Israeli and Palestinian teams asked to draft a joint statement ahead of a Mideast peace conference will hold their first meeting Monday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said.

Abbas said he expected at least 36 states to attend, including 12 Arab states, three Muslim nations, the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and the G-8.

In Friday's meeting, Abbas told his guests that a solution for Jerusalem would be key to any peace deal. Israelis and Palestinians both claim the city as a capital.

"Jerusalem has always been in our hearts, and the hope that we have been looking at," Abbas was quoted as saying. "There is no independent Palestinian state without Jerusalem as its capital. It is a concern in the coming, difficult days."

"In Friday's meeting, Abbas told his guests that a solution for Jerusalem would be key to any peace deal."

Nothing's changed, just the face.

If it's not one thing, it's another. The ultimate goal is still "from the river to the sea".

Okay, it becomes simple then: NO independent Palestinian state. What is a Palestinian anyway? There is really no such thing, historically. Now if you want to talk about Canaanites . . .

They want it all. All of it. The Arab Muslims are not interested in peace - EVER.

included in the Oslo Accord was an agreement to remove the clause in the PLO Charter that stated as their goal, a Palestinian state "from the river to the sea", ie. a Palestinian state where Israel exists today.

This was never done. The PLO charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel.

And guess who was a a founding member of Fatah and a member of the Palestine National Council (since 1968) and the PLO Executive Committee??? Yup. Mahmud Abbas.

His doctoral thesis? "The Secret Connection between the Nazis and the Leaders of the Zionist Movement". This holocausr denier is no different to Arafat or Ahmadinejad.

the problem is Olmert. He has the typical Lib brain cramp that “if you are nice to them, they will be nice to you”, which is simply a sign of weakness to these crazies.

they don't want peace. The target always moves with them. If it isn't this, they want that. If it isn't the right of return, it's they want Jerusalem.

Before they wanted the Israelis to pull out of Gaza. Of course, that turned out nicely, didn't it? The Pallies saw it as a victory and instead of taking over the "settlements" which were thriving businesses and using that to create industry, they trashed them and looted them.

Today they are deserted, burned out shells. By the way, the first buildings looted and set on fire? The synagogues.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the city of Jerusalem is mentioned about 700 times in the Torah and about 0 times in the Koran.

I guess they might as well cancel the “Peace Conference”.

If that's the case then there'll be no Pali state. ....not that that's a surprise. The only surprising thing is that the stinkin' terrorist squatters haven't been ERWed out of existence. In time.

If they had any sense, the so-called Palestinians would clamor for Gaza and the WB to be incorporated into Israel proper, then demand the right to vote.

Demographics would ensure an Israeli death in the not too distant future.

Mentioned 700 times in the Bible; it's not mentioned in the Torah.

It's certainly no coincidence that that is exactly my vision for a finally peaceful Israel...

It was probably the brits' vision too, when they created a "country" that was impossible to defend.

The Palestinian state already has a capitol.

It's called "Amman".
