Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee may have won the first-ever Values Voter Presidential Debate Straw Poll in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but he is more often a runner-up in the Election 2008 presidential race.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of his political strength shows Senator Hillary Clinton leading Governor Huckabee by eight points, 48% to 40%. Senator Barack Obama leads Huckabee by nine, 47% to 38%.

The Republican Man From Hope is really good on the campaign trail, there’s no questioning that. It’s just too bad that he was a mediocre Governor.

I fail to see what any Governor can do with Arkansas after the Clintons and their mafia have shit all over the state and the state house...

I would take Huckabee any day over a liberal like Giuliani or a say-anything fair-weather conservative like Romney.

These early polls don’t mean much, but it appears that Huckabee does about as well as anyone against Hillary or Obama.

It’s just too bad that he was a mediocre Governor.

Clinton was a miserable governor but the Arkancidans kept shoving him back into his $15M per year job.

That was his orders from his communist masters: keep your foot in until it's time for the two of you to move up to Washington.

I don’t know much about Arkansas, but what I’ve seen of Huckabee so far, I like. He may have some big-government ideas, but it’s going to be hard to find an electable candidate who doesn’t.

In any case, I hope the GOP digs around and comes up with some more “candidates” soon, because the ones who are officially in the running at the moment leave me stone-cold. And I don’t think I’m the only person who feels that way!

Agree with you. However, if Huckabee has a master politician like James Baker, he has a good chance of taking the WH.

Huckabee is too much of a socialist to get any conservative business leader backing and too religious for the liberals to donate to him.

There is a reason that he can’t raise any cash. A new campaign fund manager isn’t going to change that fact.

He is in the same boat as Duncan Hunter.

I like Hunter and agree with him on most everything but his chances are about zip.

He has been talking to much like a trade protectionist for too long to get any backing.

If he had a better manager a year ago to re-frame his trade ideas to free but fair trade he might have went somewhere.

His message would sell to unions but he is in the wrong party to get support from them.

You know, Huckabee is looking beter and better all the time. I thought the Fred Head thing would take off, but I am afraid he is turning out to be too Perot like (overly quirky).
