The top of the page shows the "old" WTKK logo and the current WTKK lineup (without Howie) followed by "Everyone's Favorite Howie Carr"--sans Sandy. Well, she is still employed by Entercom. (Entercom feels that also applies to Howie).
The rest of the page is his Boston gangster stuff but that's a big problem: the page takes awhile to fully load/scroll, even on broadband. Ever consider doing multiple pages, Howie, with links to them? One loooooooong page makes it tough to download all the pics, scroll, etc.
Also of interest: A WHOIS search says that the domain is licensed to Howie Carr-- then gives the address as "20 Guest St. in Brighton". This despite all the 96.9 content on there! Unless Entercom is making a deal to buy 96.9 from Greater Media.... :)
Am guessing HC doesn't want to reveal his Wellesley street address, but he does have a P.O. box I think..unless the domain name registrar will not accept a P.O. box as an address...
Howie Carr ping...if there are any Howie columns (I haven’t
checked Herald site yet) I will cut and paste them. Last
word on his employment situation is that a “status meeting”
is to be held Oct 15. As I noted above though he does now
have a site going up at http://www.howiecarr969.com so
maybe he’s pretty confident he will eventually wind up on
WTKK.
And now we hear Imus is coming back, perhaps by Dec 1.
It has been speculated that maybe if Howie goes to WTKK,
WRKO could pick up Imus and either get rid of Finneran
or move him to Howie’s 3-7 pm slot (I think The Felon
has a 2 year contract...)

Dislike Pike Hikes? Let’s tax the bikes

It was a headline too good to be true, and it was:
“Toll increase averted.”
That was the top banner on the Boring Broadsheet’s Web site early Friday morning. No toll increase - stop the presses. I mean, the outrageous Pike toll increase scheduled for January has been in the works since 1997. No toll increase. What an unexpected break for the motoring public.
Er, not quite. I clicked on the story and saw another headline almost as misleading: “Vote averts proposed toll increases.” And underneath, in the subhead, the actual facts: “Turnpike officials OK smaller hikes.”
Smaller hikes. In other words, the cost of traveling through the Allston and Route 128 tolls is still going up, from a buck to $1.25, just as it was scheduled a decade ago. That’s a 25 percent rise, and it was not, repeat not, averted. It’s just that the Patrick administration was floating a trial balloon that the tolls could go up as much as 75 cents, so their friends on the Boulevard gave them a free pass in the headline.
Imagine this scenario on the national scene: Inflation is raging and the Bush administration announces that it may be as high as 75 percent. Then, the actual inflation number comes in at a 25 percent annual rate. Would the headline be: “Inflation averted?”
Of course not. This is the oldest trick in the hack’s playbook. Leak a bogus story about some monumental tax hike, then announce, no, we wouldn’t think of doing that to you good folks after all. It won’t be 75 percent . . . only 25 percent. To which you are supposed to respond, “Thank you sir, may I have another?”
“Does anybody fall for this stuff anymore?” asked Barbara Anderson, the head of Citizens for Limited Taxation. “I don’t sense a lot of outrage, but I think it’s not so much apathy as disgust. Or that everybody who cared is gone. Or dead!”
The usual man-in-the-street interviews produced the expected responses. Most drivers expressed glee that their pockets would only be picked an extra $260 a year, rather than $780. If you’re on Death Row, even a 24-hour reprieve looks good. These same goobers will be just as thrilled next year when they jack up the gas tax by “only” 15 cents a gallon.
We’re told that these gas tax and toll increases (and don’t forget, they also threatened to hike up the tunnel rate from $3 to $6) are needed for the infrastructure, which brings me to another point.
How the hell many bikepaths do we need in this state anyway? I understand that moonbats love to ride their 10-speeds, but this is getting ridiculous. You want a few specifics? The state is advertising for bids on a $3.9 million contract for a 6.5-mile extension of a bikepath along a railroad track in North Falmouth. That’s $600,000 a mile. For a bikepath.
“No money for bridges,” one Cape Codder told me, “but $4 million for a bikepath in the woods to nowhere, add 20 percent for overruns and the moonbats get their ride.”
Then there’s the new Blackstone River Bikeway. We are spending $4 million “for the design” of a 16.5-mile stretch in Worcester County.
Next stop, Northampton. According to a newspaper story in August, the Highway Department is considering a bid of $1.4 million to build a segment .7 miles long. That works out to $200,000 for each tenth of a mile.
Here’s one in Scituate. They’re springing for $345,000 to pave a bikepath “between the Dunkin’ Donuts shop and the wastewater treatment plant.” Sounds like a very scenic route to me.
Next, we come to Mattapoisett. Their new bikepath is going to cost $1.2 million. It’s a mile long.
I’ve got an idea. Forget raising the tolls on the Pike and in the tunnels. Let’s toll all the wonderful new bikepaths in the boonies. We’ll have a “public hearing” on the bikepath-toll proposal, just like the Pike always does, and then we’ll just do it.

WMKK, WAAF) are located. Greater Media is at 55 Morrissey
Blvd. next to the old Ch 56 studios and the Boston Globe
(Ch 56 used to be partly owned by the Globe—WKBG-TV
= Kaiser-Boston-Globe (Kaiser Aluminum, IIRC). Now that
“CW 56” is co-owned by Ch 7, THAT station operates out
of the Ch 7 bldg in Govt center/7 Bulfinch Place.
"Design" of a bikepath? What am I missing here? I would think you'd just have to move big rocks and trees out of the way and slop down some hot-top? There's "design" involved? Learn something new every day . . . (I wonder if a friend of Deval's is is the "bikepath design" field!)

Deval’s casino-driven tax relief: bunco

So now Gov. Deval Patrick, Mr. Hope and Opportunity, is promising Massachusetts property tax relief - if we just OK a few casinos.
Open up the state for Deval’s pals to make billions, and in return, my friend, if you live in Fall River, you may - key word, may - collect $177.
Only that $177 is not real folding money. It’s an income-tax credit. And only if you can pass the means test. For Deval’s next trick, he will sell you an apple for an orchard.
This shell game du jour is included in the new casino bill, which was finally filed yesterday, after months of front-page trial balloons in the newspapers. A lot of rabbits rusted at the dogtracks-hoping-to-become-casinos while the hacks were drafting this boondoggle legislation.
As for this latest “property-tax relief,” it reminds me of those letters that come in the mail and on the front of the envelope it says, “Open Immediately - Check for $5,000 Enclosed!”
Then you notice that, oddly enough, your five grand wasn’t mailed first-class, it was sent bulk rate, or as they now call it, “precancelled.” Then another red flag - you observe that it’s addressed either to you “Or Current Occupant.” But since you’ve wasted this much time, you rip open the letter and extract the check, only it’s not really a check, because it says “Non-Negotiable” on it. It can only be “cashed” at Honest Deval’s Used Cars.
Q. What’s the difference between TJX’s miserly $15 offer to its ripped-off credit card holders, and Deval’s so-called property tax relief?
TJX gives you $15 more than Deval.
Deval’s favorite newspaper calls his latest grift a “windfall.” I call ... the bunco squad. He promised everyone in the state property-tax relief. This is a tax cut very, very few people will ever see.
Like the tent revivalist that he is, Deval says don’t wait for pie in the sky by and by when you die. Get yours now, with ice cream on top!
You can trust Deval, he’s not like the others.
The problem with most “tax credits” is that they’re designed either to reward certain groups, or merely to sound good while being accessible to almost no one. See, “rich” people never are eligible. Sounds OK, until you realize that you, and almost everyone you know, are “rich” under their definitions.
Deval’s credits would only go to homeowners who pay more than 2.5 percent of their income in property taxes. Of course this would never lead to massive fraud, now would it? Don’t we already have enough people working under the table, and not just illegal aliens either?
I mean, consider how honestly these “targeted” tax-relief programs have been run in the past. Earned-income tax credits, anyone? Just last week, we learned about the huge fraud problem in the Pike’s E-Z Pass program. If you live in certain neighborhoods in Boston, you pay 40 cents rather than $3 to drive through the harbor tunnels.
Suddenly, everyone driving in the tunnels claimed to be from East Boston. What a surprise.
Getting back to Deval, the moonbats who will be swooning over their governor’s very generous “tax relief” are the same people who oppose cutting the state income tax from 5.3 percent to 5 percent, because the reduction “only” amounts to $150 a year if you’re making $50,000.
But in the days ahead we’ll hear how wonderful Deval is to offer to spring for $177 - that extra $27 makes all the difference, apparently. I’m sure Deval’s largesse will mean a lot to all the property owners in Fall River who are being foreclosed upon by what used to be Ameriquest, where Deval sat on the board - but I digress.
I think it may be time for a new T-shirt: Deval’s pals got the casinos, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt - and a $177 tax credit.

Apparently someone trashed Scotto’s entry on Wikipedia and it can be traced back to Entercom computers.
And they have also done revisions to many other entries on the user-based encyclopedia.
