Never heard of either one.
She’s got to be at least 5 points up to win with the voter fraud down there. This one’s gonna be a battle.
Gadzooks, post who, what, there, when and how or forever be known as that FR schmuck who likes to be the smarta$$ who wants to be the only one who knows it all!
This is who I expect will be the nominees.
You would have expected the guy to change his name before putting his name on the ballot. He obviously does not have the Dem mentality.
Good to see she is competitive. I think we have an excellent shot at retaining the seat.
Um, who are these people?!
She’s a Congresswoman, he’s Mayor of Albuquerque.
Here’s hoping that we don’t have another snowstorm in eastern New Mexico.
We thought of him as "Smarty".
It was particularly apparent against Gary Johnson.
If Heather can relax and stay calm, she may just prevail.
She’s a hippo, RINO without horns.
Earl "Wilson" Hindman will always be Bob Reid from "Ryan's Hope" to me.
I agree. They always manage to find a box of unopened ballots.
One election night a couple of years ago Pete gave up his usual cool and threatened to go personally go down to the Bernalillo County clerks office and remain there until the snarls were untangled and the ballots were counted properly. This last election it took about a week to declare Heather the winner with the usual foul-ups and democratic shenanigans.
She’d be more conservative than either of the Maine women senators, by a longshot. Expert on foreign affairs, former Air Force officer and pilot, strong supporter of the national labs. Has broken with the President on social issues, but is in tune with the rest of the state. We need to keep this seat. Pete was a surefire winner, but not it will be a target for the DNC. Of course it would help nationwide if Larry “footsie” Craig would resign. He will be the Mark Foley poster-boy for 2008.
She has also had some nasty things to say about Rummy. That’s why I called her a Hippo, not quit a RINO.
Good to see that the NM Senate seat isn’t a goner as the pundits claimed last week.
LOL - I was about to ping you to this and then realized...
Good news for us. Looks like Heather Wilson may have a better shot than I originally thought.
I forgot about that.
Wilson is the Republican.
Heather Wilson is a RINO!!!
Although her ACU rating was a disappointing 67 last year, that’s nearly double that of the liberal Maine twins. Her overall lifetime rating is actually slightly more Conservative than Domenici’s at 80, so it’s either her or someone like Marty Chavez who would vote like Bingaman — and Bingaman scored a Socialist 8 from the ACU.
I know Heather would be better than Chavez, but........
A RINO is still a RINO!
Why can't we get decent, honest conservatives to run in the GOP?
Problem is, a lot of the best people don’t wish to subject themselves to a leftist media anal exam. It just isn’t worth the stress to them or their families. At least Wilson knows the routine. She’s not perfect, but she’s not the Maine twins, either. The problem is, too, a geography problem. Folks not from the Albuquerque region have a tough time getting elected, especially Republicans. One reason why she has an advantage over Steve Pearce, who is from the far southeast corner at Hobbs (though ideologically, Pearce is preferable).
One of the ABQ stations had a second poll question to accompany the one above. They had Steve Pearce matched against Marty Chavez and Pearce polled even higher than Wilson. But I suspect that’s because Pearce is unknown outside of District II and Marty is disliked by many. When the Rats would get through with smearing Steve as the strong conservative he is, it will balance the numbers.
From what I understand, one of the impetuses (is that a word ?) for Chavez running is because he failed to get a City Council to his liking in the recent election. If Pearce really is doing as well as that, maybe it might be worth the risk to run him in the primary. The only downside is risking 2 open House seats and a potentially ugly primary. Supporting Wilson solely and expecting a brutal primary between Chavez and Madrid should see us hold this seat no matter whom emerges.
It’s no wonder some panicky rodents are trying to talk Richardson into running. It’s already a slam dunk that he’s Hillary’s VP nominee, so why demote himself to just a Senate seat ?
If you check that same poll on other candidates, it shows that Steve Pearce is running stronger than Heather Wilson is. If he runs, I’d lean towards rooting for him.
