If the man cannot support his family by being self employed, then he needs to find a way to do so.

Choosing to be self employed is no excuse for not being able to provide for your children.

We are self employed, and have been for years. We pay out the wazoo for insurance.

I have had this conversation before with a man I know, who is also self employed and complaining that he cannot afford to insure his family.

My response? Then get a job that does allow you to care for them. This guy went to private school, has a college degree that was paid for by well off parents, and yet he chooses to fail his family.

You can argue all day long that insurance is too expensive, and we need to find a way to get insurance companies to lower costs, but NEVER will I go for government health care.

Take care of your own, and leave me alone.

Exactly. To me, on a micro scale, this post shows how SCHIP and nationized health-care provides a disincentive for businesses to contribute to health care coverage. Why should a business contribute to health care for employees when the government will do it? Just one less thing for a small business to worry about.

Actually, the government needs to stop mandating that health insurance policies cover every little thing pushed by interest groups. This practice is a big reason for the high prices.

Well said. This guy was raised to be dependent on others for his family's wellbeing. His parents never weaned him and now he wants the government to insure his kids while he tries (apparently not hard enough) to build his business. Model for the perfect Democrat - happily dependent on the giverment to raise his kids.

Like many small-business owners, Halsey Frost can't even afford to provide health insurance to himself, Manley said.

"Last year, the Frost's made $45,000 combined," Manley said. "Over the past few years they have made no more than $50,000 combined depending on Halsey's ability to find work."

I was working on my own for a few years. After my wife had some medical problems our insurance more than doubled to over $1100/mo. I struggled to pay the bills and build the business but ended up going back on a payroll.

If he has been running this business since 1992 and never made more than 50K he is in the wrong line of work because he isn't making it on his own. That doesn't give him the right to pump the money back into his business while the taxpayers pay for his kids health and education.

The Democrats stepped in it again. They thought this kid would be the perfect example of why SCHIP needs to be expanded. Instead it turned out to be the perfect example of why it shouldn't be. Given the choice, too many will gladly let taxpayers pay for what they can, if they need to, afford for themselves.

Let’s face it. The Dems inadvertently chose the perfect “poster family” for their propaganda. A typical middle class family that is more than willing to “play” the system to their advantage, just as many lower class families have played the system.... and just as many MORE families will be willing to do under this program. I mean, who wouldn’t use “free” health care if it were available?

The Dems have just illustrated why their campaign to extend benefits to those that least need it is just another Democrat Party ‘bad idea’... in order to garner more votes.
