Man treated for TB in Denver tired of 'abuse,' flees to Russia

An attorney for a Phoenix man locked up in a hospital jail ward and treated like an inmate says her client has left the country.

Doctors ruled recently that Robert Daniels was no longer contagious with tuberculosis after he underwent lung surgery while being treated at Denver's National Jewish Medical and Research Center.

He had been living in a Phoenix-area motel under monitoring by Maricopa County Public Health officials for the past few weeks.

Attorney Linda Cosme said Daniels sent her an e-mail from Moscow after arriving there on a flight Sunday.

"He apologized," Cosme said. "Essentially, he could not take the abuse from the county. He felt threatened (by Sheriff Joe Arpaio). He just couldn't take it any more."

After moving from Moscow to Arizona last year, leaving behind a a wife and a son, Daniels was treated for drug-resistant TB.

Last August, the 28-year-old Daniels was placed in solitary confinement in the jail ward at Maricopa Medical Center. A judge had ruled Daniels recklessly exposed others to his illness by going out in public without a mask.

Once again taking flight on a public airline without notifying the passengers!

Shouldn't this guy's name be on the federal 'watch list'?

What a slimeball!

So he wasn't actually "locked up" or "treated like an inmate", was he.

Arpaio said he believes Daniels was under court order not to leave the U.S.

“Maybe now they (the public) will understand this guy is untrustworthy,” Arpaio said. “He lies . . . and he skipped.

What, did the heat get too much for him? He had to run to Russia?”

Treated like an inmate? Not even close. ...unless he was forced to work hard labor, sing the Star Spangled Banner 3x per day, wear pink underwear, and watch the Disney Channel exclusively.

Sheriff Joe -- best lawman in the country.

What a selfish POS...Revoke his passport immediately and send him to some uninhabited island where he won’t ever be a danger to anyone. He deserved it

Let the sissy go. Anyone who thinks they have an anarchistic right to pose a real health danger to others is a criminal in my book. Revoke his passport and let him stew in Russia forver. We don’t need these types here.

More from the article:

Daniels was born in Moscow to an American father and Russian mother. He holds dual citizenship and spent some of his childhood in Scottsdale.

After moving from Moscow to Arizona last year, leaving behind a a wife and a son, Daniels was treated for drug-resistant TB.

Came to the US to get treated, got the "treatment" (or rather brought it on himself), and decided to go home.
