Reps. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) made it clear Tuesday that they are not inclined to support the GOP nominee for president if that candidate is not in line with their views.
Asked about it during the debate of Republican presidential candidates in Michigan, Paul said right now he would not commit to support the party’s nominee.
“Not unless they’re willing to end the war and bring our troops home,” Paul said, to which Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) answered “You don’t want me then, pal.”

How dare someone stand in Republican debates, use the GOP to aggrandize themselves, and then stab the party in the back during the general election? The RNC should require that all candidates pledge to support the nominee in order to participate in the debates.
Here is what I think Ron Paul is doing. He is using the GOP to get attention and raise money. Then he is going to run third party during the general election in an effort to undermine the Republican nominee.
For the record, if Ron Paul were to become the nominee of the GOP, I would support him. If Rudy Giuliani were to become the nominee of the GOP, I would support him.
Fortunately, Fred Thompson is going to be the nominee of the GOP. And I will heartily support him.
Rep. Ron Paul admitted in today’s debate that he would not support the Republican nominee (so did Tom Tancredo.) He therefore is not a Republican, rather a Libertarian in guise of a Republican candidate.
I’m seriously considering proposing that our local county Executive Committee direct our Chairman to leave Paul’s name off of the Primary ballot (in both the Presidential and Congressional race), as he has just publicly refused to support the eventual Party nominee.
And in a far off cold dark cave somewhere, Michael Moore turned to Hillary and smiled, only to discover she already had a big smile of her own crossing her face. Her distinct cackle echoed through the long dark hole in the ground in which they sat. The fire flickered and the cauldron they had gathered around bubbled as if expressing emotions of delight of its own. George Soros nodded in amused agreement.
That's better. Too bad Mr. Paul didn't say it.
I admire the honesty; it’s the same way I feel, if the Republican party nominee is liberal. I don’t hold party loyalty over principle. I woudn’t support Guliani, Romney, McCain or anyother liberal pub period.
They are children.
The Republican Party is fracturing...
Interesting point. Reminds me of a certain “republican” New York City mayor who refused to support his party’s nominee for governor.
Paul and Tancredo are about principle ahead of party.
I wonder what the other candidate, Alan Keyes, would have said had he been invited.
C'mon - who supports candidates who aren't in line with their views anyways. Stupid question.
LOSERS!
Those men are standing there falsely presenting themselves as Republicans, not Liberarians or anything else. The dishonesty makes me wonder if helping Hillary Clinton isn’t their purpose.
Ron Paul didn’t hint. He said that he would not support anyone who won’t pull all of our troops out of Iraq immediately. That means he’ll either support Barack Obama or run as an independent.
Tancredo will most likely support any nominee with the exception of McCain or Guiliani.
Hint?? They did a little more than hint.
What if (Lord help us) they are the nominees? Will they support themselves?
Maybe the Republican party likes helping hillary (just like it did her husband by nominating a RINO-ALA DOle, Guiliani, Romney, McCain)?
You would say DOLE cost us the 96, election wouldn’t you??
Wy not say the same in 2007 with a liberal (even more so than dole), RomneyGuliani?
Are you afraid to be conservative? Rather than a Party-power player?
I blame them not Tancredo or Paul (though I disagree with his stance on the war in Iraq)!
Could very well be, but I'm more inclined to think that it fits better with the MSM agenda to make it appear so. The dems have been shut out of the WH for 8 years, and they want to change that in 2008.
Or Romney.
They can’t controll him (or what he says) so they didn’t invite him, elitists!~
