(Nigerian) MD Loses N$9m To ‘Witches And Wizards’
The News (Nigeria) ^ | 10/09/07 | Adewunmi Adebiyi

Posted on 10/09/2007 8:30:45 PM PDT by P.O.E.

The Managing Director of Brother Trust Nigeria Limited, Apapa, Mr. Adedojo Aroloye, has narrated to an Ikeja High Court how he lost N9 million to some people who claimed to be witches and wizards. The N9 million fraud charge was brought against four accused persons, Kayode Awolumate, Sunday Omotayo, Joke Adamolekun and Ibrahim Adebisi.

Aroloye told the court that he was defrauded by the accused, who claimed to be witches and wizards and promised to make him richer.

Narrating the incident, Aroloye said his driver, Sunday Omotayo (one of the accused), introduced his father, Oluwole Adamolekun a.k.a. Gadaffi, No Mercy, who is now at large, to him in January 2007.

Aroloye added that Adamolekun took him to a shrine which he (Aroloye) could no longer locate.

He narrated that he was given a calabash to take home and bring back the following day.

According to Aroloye, the following day, he was taken to another shrine where he met some women who called themselves ‘witches of the world’.

Said the petitioner: “My driver introduced his purported father to me. His father told me that he is happy with what I have done for his child and promised to reward me by taking me to the elder’s place, which I refused.”

“He gave me a calabash, which he told me to bring the following day. Not knowing what I was doing, I went to an unknown shrine with my driver. He recited some incantations and we entered a room.

“I saw some women dressed in white clothes. They made chirping sounds like birds and had some tatoos on their bodies.”

Aroloye disclosed that he recognised one of the witches. “I saw Ajoke written on the arm of one of the witches (third accused), Joke Adamolekun.

“They said I was lucky because they met only once in a year and that it was time for them to bless their Oluwo (father of my driver).”

“They put me on oath and ordered that whatever I hear, I must tell no one outside that gathering; not even my wife.

“They made me to withdraw money from my account, which I gave to them under the pretext of making me richer, a thing I did not ask them to do.

“Adamolekun also recited some incantations, and suddenly, the calabash started talking, but I didn’t understand what the calabash was saying.

“He later translated to me that the witches all over the world have accepted my sacrifice.”

After listening to the witnesses, the presiding judge, Justice Joseph Oyewole, adjourned the matter till today for continuation of cross examination of the witnesses.

That's a new Nigerian angle, for sure.

Boy, you would figure with a country so full of HONORABLE BARRISTER(’s) that someone would have noticed that the poor guy was getting scammed.

Even Nigerians are conned by the 419ers. You have to decide whether to cry or to laugh at how easily people get taken in. No - you aren't stupid if you got scammed. If the Nigerians can't spot 'em, no one is safe.

Thank you so very much for the ping!

I am honored that you are aware of my appreciation for witchcraft stories, which I find to be either an amusing or sobering commentary on the state of 'certain' cultures.

Africa Nigerian lynched for witchcraft

'Witch hitman' jailed for life (South Africa)

Kenya Witchcraft stuff found in school (Also, mysterious stones fall from the sky)

Men avenged 'witchcraft' murder (South Africa)

South Africa Mob stones father at grave (Witchcraft blamed)

Zimbabwe's Harry Potter (After 107 year ban, Mugabe legalizes witchcraft and wizardry)

Zim Bogus traditional healer held (Told woman to hire mermaids, use bull 'privates' to find car)

Thank you again for being so very kind as to think of me  :)

FYI, as of this moment the currency conversion of 9,000,000. Nigerian Naira into US dollars comes out to just over $72,000.

Still a whole lot of money in Nigeria, but nothing like nine million American dollars.
