Remember the amnesty issue? The ORP speaks out again...
Resolution of the Oregon Republican Party Concerning the Law of the Sea Treaty (L.O.S.T.)
Whereas the Bush administration, for the second time in three years, is putting on a major effort for Senate ratification of the United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty; and
Whereas President Ronald Reagan refused to sign L.O.S.T. in 1982 because he realized that the treaty doesn't serve United States interests; and
Whereas in 1994 President Clinton signed a revised version of L.O.S.T. and forwarded it to the Senate, which did not ratify it; and
Whereas L.O.S.T. would impair and restrict the necessary operations of the United States Navy, such as boarding ships engaged in terrorist-related activities; and
Whereas L.O.S.T. creates an independent source of revenue for the U.N. through a global tax, signaling the emergence of a socialist world government; and
Whereas L.O.S.T. would give the U.N. the power to create a multi-national court system and to enforce its judgments; and
Whereas companies seeking to mine or fish would be required to apply for a permit, paying a fee of $250,000 and unspecified levels of royalties and profit-sharing; and
Whereas the U.N. would have the authority to set production controls for ocean mining, drilling and fishing, regulate ocean exploration, issue permits and settle disputes in its own new court; and
Whereas a new U.N. agency would have the right to compete directly with private companies in those profit-making activities; and
Whereas L.O.S.T. provides new avenues for environmental activists to pursue legal action in both U.S. and international courts, and carries the risk that the United States may lose control of its environmental laws; and
Whereas L.O.S.T. enforcement body is not the Security Council, where the United States has a veto, but a Council of 36 nations, the majority of which are not friendly to the United States; and
Whereas Don Kraus, the Executive Vice President of Citizens for Global Solutions reveals the agenda behind L.O.S.T, saying: If the Senate will not accede to this convention, how can we expect them to support the ratification of the backlog of multilateral treaties waiting for a vote including: the International Criminal Court, Comprehensive Test Ban, Womens Convention, Rights of the Child, Biodiversity, and many others. What will happen when it is time for the Senate to consider the successor to the Kyoto protocol, which runs out in 2012?;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Oregon Republican Party
That the Oregon Republican Party believes L.O.S.T. is grounded in un-American and un-Republican concepts such as global socialism and world government; and
That the Oregon Republican Party believes L.O.S.T. seriously damages the sovereignty and security of the United States of America and sabotages its economic well-being; and
That the Oregon Republican Party believes L.O.S.T., by asserting U.N. authority over seven-tenths of the Earths surface, would be the largest territorial conquest in history; and
That the Oregon Republican Party calls upon the Oregon Senate Delegation, along with Senators throughout the nation, to vigorously oppose ratification of L.O.S.T. by all means possible.
Adopted this 4th Day of October 2007, in the city of Portland, Oregon
It appears that President Bush is intent on turning this country into a globalist country before he gets out. If he was pulling this stunt two years ago he just might not be President today.
Good for Oregon.
Good for the Oregon Republican Party, of which I was a central committee for many years, for this resolution against L.O.S.T.. I would like to see this resolution passed by the Republican Party of every state in the union.
Bush is going to push this and his comprehensive amnesty policy for illegal invaders hard. This is the “capital” he spoke of after being re-elected to his lame duck term. He has nothing to lose so he will do all he can to further the One World Government goal of the globalists.
He has even called in the World Court to intervene in the execution of an illegal alien convicted and condemned in Texas for the gruelling rape and murder of two teenage girls there! The president of the U.S. is actually appealing to a foreign court to influence the judicial decision of an American court!!!!! What else will he not do?!!!!
Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Oregon Ping List.
BTTT
They said that we are establishing our own rights and not only granting them to foreign countries and that on balance this is in our favor. They said that they are satisfied with language in the treaty concerning the free movement of military ships.
These guys did not seem like traitors to me.
Here's the Wikipedia article on the LOST.
Wake up, dude. We don’t “establish our rights” by signing treaties. We LIMIT them.
Wow, who knew there were still real conservatives on the West Coast?
Yup, and we beleive in, and practice, political trench warfare.
I really don’t know anything about this yet, but IF I accept anything coming out of Oregon as even halfway true, then there seem to be sizeable problems with this. Given Bush’s recent track record, I believe that he needs to be stopped. I will be checking with my Senators on this.
I’m with ORP on this. Bush is lost. Supporting this is as enigmatic as his open borders policy. It’s not American.
Hit the keyword ‘lost’ or Google ‘lost treaty.’ You will quickly see how devious this is and be mystified by who you find supporting it.
Bush & I don’t agree on very much these days.
Google Frank Gafney(sp?) and LOST. He is no lightweight on foreign affairs and U.S. sovereignty and he isn’t too keen on LOST. But he is informative.
No they aren't. I don't knock him but I sure have given up on understanding him anymore.
No president will ever do everything you or I or anyone would want him to do. All we can do is cast a vote for the one we believe will act the most toward the interest of the U.S. It may not always turn out the way we want it but what other choice does one have? Would it have been better to have Gore or Kerry in? I certainly don’t think so.
You mean “Good for Oregon Republican Party”. I certainly doubt that the Oregon democrats would sign onto this.
