You are right, but for the wrong reasons. The MSM wants a NY v. NY because they are lazy, and if their laziness benefits Madame Cankles, so much the better.
Chrissy Matthews telegraphed his own treasoning, er, reasoning months ago: "And I'm so sick of Southern guys with ranches running this country. I want a guy to run for President who doesnt have a f***ing Im sorry, a ranch."
2ndDivisionVet >It looks like they are a small daily in Tennessee that did a compilation of reviews from the MSM and blogosphere on Freds performance in the debate last week.
LOL! It "looks like" that, 2ndDivisionVet, because you cut out the first line that shows it's actually just a press release, not their own article.
It doesn't change the fact that there were many people writing positively about Sen. Thompson. Still, I have to give you credit for your sneaky little maneuver of cutting that out. :-)
Nah, I think that they prefer the NYC mayor over any of the other candidates, too.
Offered Real Solutions for Real Problems
...."Take Social Security's long-term solvency, an issue on which moderator Maria Bartiromo said Thompson was one of the few candidates offering specific solutions. Thompson used the question to return to his larger theme for the debate -- things are OK now but we are walking a dangerous line for our future. "We are eating our seed corn, we are spending their money," Thompson said. "We're better than that." ("Thompson the Tone Setter", The Fix, Washington Post, 10/9/07).
...I find it interesting that the vast majority of the MSM didn't even report this.....
but, then again....the so-called "Journalists" have sold their souls/credibility to the DNC/$hrillary
HA!....honesty/objectively, is the "coin" of our profession....the "vaulted" American Free Press, has been sold....to a bunch of crack whores
Steve Gill wrote in the “Fred Factor” about an event in TN called Mule Day where all the candidates show up to meet and greet voters. Fred rode a horse that day in a parade. IIRC I have a picture, somewhere. Think he had a hat as well.
I can think of many adjectives to describe Fred’s debate performance but “good” would not be one of them. Might I suggest alternatives such as boring, monotone, stumblng, tired, and uninspiring. That said, he didn’t totally fall on his face either. He did better toward the end of the debate and obviously many people still support him. But except for the fact that he didn’t fall off the stage there is no way that you can paint his performance as any sort of a victory.

Thompson won that debate.
A belated welcome to Free Republic.
Thanks.
Petronski, how do you think Fred won? I watched the whole debate and from my perspective at least he had more bad moments than good moments. His answer on Terrorism was great, he had a good reply to Romney’s joke, and he finished well. However, his first answer was terrible, and his answers on trade and the economy seemed really weak to me. Even his Social Security Answer which I expected to be strong since he had just announced a plan for dealing with that seemed much more vague than I was expecting with only a few specifics thrown in at the end of the answer. In all fairness, I should say that I am not a “free trade” supporter and so when Fred was rhapsodizing about Free Trade I tended to tune out. However, I would honestly like to know what you think were Fred’s strongest moments and how you can claim that he won the debate?
Glad to help, I disagree with Fred but I don’t think that he is a bad guy.
I just heard yesterday that Thompson endorsed Ghouliani.
That would be Tommy Thompson NOT Fred Thompson. It is still sad though - I still don’t see how any conservative could support Giuliani. His positions on abortion and gay marriage make even many democrats look moderate

Here’s one observer who thinks that folks who came away with the impression you are pushing have their heads screwed on backwards:

I suggest you have a look.
Lol, the guy you linked me too certainly used enough adjectives to try and argue that Fred won but he was a little short on facts.
I honestly don’t see how anyone can say that Fred won. He may have done as well as he needed to do to meet expectations and keep his supporters but he certainly did not appear to be as comfortable and on top of his game as many of the other candidates. If this was a debate competition and we were all were judges (who had to be completely impartial) who were judging based upon things like organization, eye contact, speaking quality, command of the facts, humor and any other objective criteria that you want to use. How many of you actually think Fred won?
