Ruger P345: reviews & Recommendations
10/13/2007

Posted on 10/13/2007 6:27:32 PM PDT by MichaelP

I'm considering buying a Ruger P345 for CC. The written reviews I've read are excellent. However, it has to pass the Freeper peer review board before I buy it. So what do you think?

Mike

I actually just a had a close friend buy CZ and I was very impressed with how it shot. The Ruger P89 was the second pistol I ever bought. It has never jammed once and it’s sturdy. I don’t believe you can go wrong buying a Ruger, however I wouldn’t CC it.

The duty range officer, a former Marine, said “I don’t know if I should be proud or afraid” after seeing some of the targets I shot. Unfortunately, my smallest groups were shot at 20 feet away.

CZ’s are remarkable pistols.

Indeed they are. I bought the 75B to replace a Browning Hi Power and fell in love with it over the years. Had to have a .40 though and never considered anything but the RAMI. No regrets to date.

I can’t believe, considering what a 1911 bigot I’ve been most of my life...

LOL! You and about 9 zillion others!

I have owned a couple of Ruger P89s and liked them. I did learn however that they WILL NOT stand up to a steady diet of +P loadings.

"Unfortunately, my smallest groups were shot at 20 feet away."

I believe most documented gunfights involving pistols occurred at around 10 ft., so don't despair, practice.

It sounds as though he wasn't being very supportive of an enthusiastic first-timer, which is unfortunate.  Not everyone who has skills in one specific arena of life also have good interpersonal skills, and I hope that you won't be dissuaded from further practice by this experience.

Not many people have award-winning marksmanship skills instantly, the first time they pick up a gun, and most who claim to are liars.  For most people, marksmanship is a skill developed over time and through practice, and if you stick with it and focus on essential things such as (but not limited to) proper stance, breathing, trigger control etc. etc. you should be able to identify areas that may need improvement and you'll see better results with time. :-)

They are indeed fine handguns but I, as a matter of personal preference, do not like DAO pistols of any brand.

Do you carry now? If not you may consider the following.

When I began carrying I started with a Colt Officer's Model, which was fine for size, but I had a weird feeling about carrying it cocked and locked. I then tried an XD45 Compact, which is a great gun, but a bit big to conceal in warm weather/light clothing. Ended up with a Glock 27 in .40cal. Smaller than the other two guns and easy to conceal.

Most people I talk to start out with large handguns and then end up going smaller for ease of carry, even if they go down a caliber.

I don’t have a gun to practice with, and no car to travel easily with.

Well once I get into better shape I’ll be a new person. So I hope something like breath control, and being able to steady the gun with my right hand will improve considerably.

John Browning seemed to know what he was doing. CZ's are basically modified Browning Hi-Powers aren't they?

To tell the truth, I like just about anything that goes bang. When it comes to guns and shooting, I've got the morals of a crack whore.

I tried firing one once, and it felt "weird" to me. I don't know if it was my imagination, but after firing both my S&W 645 and my 1911-A1, it felt like the grip was flexing in my hand. Maybe it was also the fact that the felt recoil of a 9mm is so different than that of a .45.
