Howie Carr live thread for the week of Oct 14. Including his Sun 10/14 Herald column.

The show is still up in the air; meeting is supposedly being held tomorrow. Greater Media wants Howie to do mornings for them but Entercom still feels he is their property, etc. Todd Feinburg has been filling in in the meantime. If I hear anything I'll pass it along.

Thanks for the web link - I’ll have to check that out. I have every book Shep ever wrote and a number of CD’s from both studio and live performances in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s. The man’s observations about humor nature were trenchant and timeless, and he remains the single greatest storyteller I have ever heard.

you’re welcome!

From today’s Herald, by Jessica Heslam

Howie: Let Me Be Heard—On WTKK

Off the air for nearly a month, Boston talkmeister Howie Carr is set to ask a judge today to reconsider an earlier decision, and clear the way for him to become the new morning drive host at WTKK (96.9 FM).

Carr, a Boston Herald columnist, has been embroiled in a legal battle with WRKO (680 AM) since he announced in July that he struck a deal - worth up to $7 million - with the rival station.

WRKO executives matched WTKK’s offer, and say that because they did so, the popular radio host is obliged to work for them until 2012.

While WRKO continues to tout Carr as their host, Carr is eager to start working at the Greater Media Boston-run WTKK and sources say he recently took part in a group photo session with other WTKK hosts for the station’s new lineup.

Last month, Suffolk Superior Court Judge Allan van Gestel said the non-compete clause in Carr’s WRKO contract was illegal but the provision in the contract that gives the station the right to match a competitor’s salary is valid.

The judge didn’t rule on whether Carr is obligated to stay at WRKO for another five years, however.

Carr, who has been off the air since his WRKO contract expired Sept. 19, has filed an emergency motion for reconsideration, saying the right-to-match provision is illegal. WRKO is asking for a preliminary injunction, asking the court to ban WTKK from talking with Carr and from making any public statements about him until 2012.

In court papers, attorneys for Greater Media Boston said the requested injunction “would impose an improper prior restraint” on its constitutionally-protected right to freedom of speech.

A hearing on the motions is scheduled for today. Carr declined comment yesterday.

I truly hope Howie wins this round or that Entercom relents. I think I'm going through withdrawal...

(Hello? Hello? ;-)

yeah! I had suggested this awhile back actually, doing a soundboard similar to the Mark Levin fan site (but I didn’t
know how to do it—well, maybe I could have figured it out but it would take awhile to do all the links and HTML)

And it is nice to hear the voice again...and indeed we
are going through withdrawal. Hopefully Howie will get his way and we can all thank Julie Kahn of Entercom for helping to
promote _WTKK’s_ newest talk hosts, Howie Carr!

Recorded off the air, as broadcast. Including commercials, dropouts, static, etc.

I read ‘In God we Trust- All others pay cash’ the summer before my senior year in high school.

I picked up on his writing voice and was the only one in my Honors English class to sweep straight A’s.

Christmas Story is definitely on my top 5 favorite movie list.

yup and there’s a station in NY that streamcasts IIRC
and they run Shep shows. Mass Backwards.

THERE ARE PODCASTS! You don’t have to be awake at 5:15
am to hear it!

http://flicklives.com/Mass_Back/mass_back.asp

A friend of mine got a bunch of Shep shows (free or
low cost) on mp3.

no prob

By the way “select” WRKO listeners are being sent to a survey about WRKO.com (WRKO insiders). That mean everyone
is probably getting the invite to the survey. Here are some of my answers.

“What would wrko.com have to become your
home page?”

No Tom Finneran.

“What unique content would you like to
see on Tom Finneran’s page?”

The announcement that he’s leaving.

“What unique content would you like to see on Howie Carr’s page?”

That would be on WTKK’s site, wouldn’t it?

“What do you most dislike about WRKO.com?”

Dishonesty about Howie Carr, WTKK’s
newest talk host.

Sandy’s not there today - she must be at Howie’s hearing.

Here’s hoping it all goes well!

bump for later.

I’ve always enjoyed listening to Howie’s show in the afternoons. I won’t be able to listen to the morning show, since it has to be syndicated to be heard up here in Maine.

Virtual Howie is kinda cool. It's asynchronous, so, if you're fast enough, you can click bunches of buttons at the same time, and get, heh, a Collage, man...

yeah I did that with the Levin soundboard too—I kept
piling Ted K’s “Hello? Hello”s on top of each other.
